In January 2019, I attempted to outline a "#CompetitiveCoexistence" concept @TheNatlInterest: https://t.co/pR6oxTJgJJ
I'll be the first to admit that MUCH has changed in nearly 4 yrs under Xi.
Now I recommend "#HoldingTheLine" thru this #DecadeOfDanger:

"According to Andrew Erickson of @NavalWarCollege &Gabriel Collins @BakerInstitute, China's power is peaking, creating 'a #DecadeOfDanger from a system that incrsngly realizes it only has a short time to fulfill some of its most critical,long-held goals'"

I read @DesmondShum's book word-for-word.
He has deep insights into #China's politics + policy & shares them generously, with understandable concern.

AKA @POTUS #NSS "#DecisiveDecade"/"#DangerousDecade"/"#DangerZone"
This is the first time that I believe a Taiwan invasion is on active agenda of chinese leadership. In previous adms, unification via force is a lip service item. I believe it is real now
Great conclusion to #NationalSecurityStrategy!
#DecisiveDecade takeaways in new #NSS sound a lot like this:
“The #DecadeOfDanger is upon us. …The mission is vital, the stakes are high, and the clock is ticking.”

@marsecgina @DEricSayers @ElbridgeColby @jagowriter @CovertShores @steffanwatkins @BDHerzinger @TangAnZhu @cb_johnstone 16/ The final sentences:
"This is what we must achieve in this decisive decade. As we have done throughout our history, America will seize this moment and rise to the challenge. There is no time to waste."
Look fwd to analysis by my fave podcasts out there, esp @WarOnTheRocks
“Why shouldn’t it be as bad as the 1970s?” @nfergus said.
“I’m going to go out on a limb: Let’s consider the possibility that the #2020s could actually be worse than the 1970s.”

Hard words that we need to hear.
So glad @ashleytownshend is coming to Washington to help us be the Ally we must be in this #DecisiveDecade!

I’m pleased to share my new @IISS_org analysis with @jamescrabtree on the state of US defence strategy, alliances and partners in the Indo-Pacific, launched at #SLD22.
It’s a sobering read. A🧵on why we’re so worried about the trajectory of US strategy. 1/https://t.co/jzTyDK4PnN

As #China’s relative power peaks during this decisive #DecadeOfDanger, #Xi is likely to make a catastrophic move against #Taiwan IF he calculates that his probability of success is sufficiently high.

#Research arm of @NavalWarCollege seeks leadership through end of this #DecadeOfDanger from peaking #China & #Russia!
And he won’t.
The greatest challenge of this #DecadeOfDanger will be deterring/preventing #Xi from pulling a #Putin against #Taiwan.
Here’s how we can #HoldTheLine & why we must:
https://t.co/KFez9JU3xm
Xi has been handed an opportunity to side with the liberal international order and against Putin's imperial violent revisionism. So far, he hasn't taken it.
Facing reality, & maintaining the viability of vital Alliances that @POTUS & his team so rightly emphasize in this #DecadeOfDanger, requires that the #Biden Administration not become the first ever to invoke “#SolePurpose” as declaratory policy in the new #Nuclear Posture Review.
"The #IndoPacific’s future depends on the choices we make now. The *DECISIVE DECADE* before us will
determine..whether we can sustain the principles of openness, transparency & inclusivity that have fueled the region’s success."

.@chairmang gets it!
To prevail vs. peaking threats from #Xi/#CCP/#PRC in this #DecadeOfDanger, US must immediately prioritize deterring & defending vs. attack on #Taiwan.

The #decadeofdanger as @AndrewSErickson puts in, is part of those challenges of the 2020s that the past winter 2021 issue of @FPRI Orbis looked at … 1/
The #DecadeOfDanger is upon us—no left time to waste.
America/Allies/Partners must push to maximize their competitive edge as rapidly as possible to avoid an outcome they cannot afford—
“losing the 2020s”—which would also mean losing the 2030s & beyond.

In short, there are ways to keep #deterrence working vs. a peaking #Xi/#CCP/#PRC during this #DecadeOfDanger—provided that US leaders make it a top priority, starting now.
https://t.co/kU6yKVTXvK
Across the entire DIME spectrum, during this #DecadeOfDanger, peaking #PRC-under-#Xi capabilities & ambitions are all “coming to a head” in a striking convergence—producing an acute threat to #Taiwan, & to American & Ally/Partner security/vital interests.

So how can US/Allies #HoldTheLine during #DecadeOfDanger?
Consider what will later close this Window of Vulnerability.
EX: #Demographics matter because people matter—one of the most significant, predictable factors influencing national power & priorities.
PRC prospects? Bleak!
Welcome to the #DecadeOfDanger!
This #WindowOfOpportunity for coercion vs. #Taiwan & other aggression is being thrown wide open by dramatic convergence of peaking #Xi/#CCP/#PRC.
But the same peaking factors are also conspiring to close the window far sooner than many realize...
