Great #VO tip from @sarajanesherman (also gr8 4 #dialectstudy ). In thread she mentions retaining by writing these down. I agree, reinforce that & have taken it further: I created a #character notation worksheet (to which I’ll be adding recent @AndreaToyias ideas 🙂) #actingcraft

#VO tip: A key phrase is a short sentence that helps you dial in your character voice or accent. Think “‘Ello Guv’na” for Cockney or “Gag me with a Spoon” for Valley. These are great to have when doing multiple voices, have some nerves or it’s been a bit since you’ve done a role.

What a gr8 time we had “Demystifying #Dialects” (w/ by my cherished friend & colleague @VoiceActingDir). We covered Dialects across many #vo genres, why #dialectstudy is still relevant & valuable in an authentic casting landscape, & approaching a #dialect. [More in pic & thread]

52 Pickup for “picking up” #dialects - 12/52 - @tom_antonellis “Vowel substitution” is used in #dialectstudy (e.g. 🇦🇺 #Australian in pic). I wanted a different term for pronouncing a vowel slightly differently (e.g. 🇮🇪 #Irish) -I chose “vowel affectation” [EXERCISE in thread]
