#DurlstonYr2 have been learning about animal adaptations. How can polar animals survive in freezing temperatures? The blubber glove was the perfect experiment - two bowls of icy water, two hands, one bare and one in blubber. Lots of squeals amidst the learning! #DurlstonScience

#DurlstonYr8’s new Biology topic on body systems had its first practical today - dissecting chicken wings! The pupils were superb at identifying the different bones and muscles that work together with ligaments and tendons to bring about movement in the limbs 💪 #DurlstonScience
As part of #durlstonyr5's Earth and Space Science topic, our pupil brought in his impressive Lego Technic orrery that he built at home, showing how the Moon orbits the Earth and the Earth orbits the Sun! #durlstonscience

#durlstonyr5 have been busy exploring the properties of materials in #durlstonscience. As part of their topic, pupils carried out practical experiments to discover that magnetic fields can travel through air and to measure how resistant different materials are to abrasion.

#DurlstonYr8 have been learning about the different reactions that result in a salt - here are the beautiful blue copper sulphate crystals they made! The key to bigger crystals is for them to cool down more slowly 💎 #DurlstonScience

Pre-Prep have been busy little palaeontologists this week. Here are #DurlstonYr1 creating their own dinosaur fossils using salt dough - a hands on way to bring our 'dino week' to life! #DurlstonScience

Experiment time for #DurlstonYr8 as they commence a new Chemistry topic on Reactivity! They investigated how we can observe the signs of a chemical reaction - which are a colour change, temperature change, or effervescence (aka bubbles)! 🧪🫧🌡️ #DurlstonScience

Heart dissection time for #DurlstonYr10 who all got hands-on experience with identifying the atria, ventricles, arteries, and veins they have been learning about for their Biology GCSE! 🫀✂️ #DurlstonBiology #DurlstonScience

Our budding #durlstonyr5 scientists have been investigating which materials dissolve in water. They’ve been testing, predicting and observing to see what happens – fantastic hands-on learning! #durlstonscience

🦷🔍 Science Detectives in Year 4!
Our #durlstonyr4 children became animal dentists – investigating and matching different types of teeth to the animals they belong to. It was fantastic to see their curiosity, teamwork and scientific thinking in action! #durlstonscience

🪨 Year 3 had a blast exploring different types of rock today! From igneous to metamorphic to sedimentary, learning has never been so hands-on! #ScienceRocks #Year3 #PrimaryScience #HandsOnLearning #DurlstonScience

Continuing with the #DurlstonYr6 Reproduction topic, pupils dissected tulip flowers to closely observe all of the different male and female reproductive parts. They then got to practice their microscope skills to see pollen grains from the anthers up close! 🌷 #DurlstonScience

#durlstonyr5 have been investigating friction as part of their Forces #durlstonscience topic. First, they made parachutes to see how different sizes of canopy would affect the rate of descent, & then they used toy cars to test stopping distances on different surfaces.

There was an Easter-themed Science lesson for #DurlstonYr6 on the last day of term where they made their own red cabbage indicator, soaked it into egg-shaped filter paper, and made their Easter designs using the pink and green colours from acid and alkali! 🐣🥚 #DurlstonScience
