L.A. County has become an epicenter for health care fraud in America. Criminals have corrupted the system so much that fraud is now almost expected. President Trump has made it clear: we will not tolerate the patient harm or taxpayer funded theft any longer. More to come.
Still on that #ETHNICPROFILING issue
Dear all,
If anything is clear from the comments under this tweet, it’s that most Nigerians are decent people—not blinded by ethnic hatred—and can call out wrongdoing fairly. Only a small minority remain trapped in bigotry. I’m addressing those tagged because I believe many simply need a little context to see the bigger picture.
1. On the idea that terrorism or banditry “has one face”
For those claiming terrorists and bandits are all northerners, here is a southern governor—his state’s Chief Security Officer—saying openly and without challenge that 99% of terrorist bandits arrested in his state are locals, not Hausas, Fulanis, or northerners.
https://t.co/rOP0pumg2Y…
Let the loud bigots who justify #EthnicProfiling of northerners offer a new excuse for their hate.

2. On the questions: “Why is he in the bush?” and “Why can’t he speak English?”
A. That video may not even have been shot “deep in the bush.” Anyone familiar with the Niger Delta knows you can find that kind of vegetation almost anywhere without going far into the jungle. I spent a large chunk of my youth in Niger Delta, so I should know.
B. No law says a Nigerian must rent a house or live inside a community to justify his movement. It is preferable in these times, but choosing otherwise doesn’t make someone a criminal.
----
3. On the issue of communicating in English:
Many Nigerians survive through the informal economy without speaking English. The boy in the video can still negotiate a sale, with limited verbal communication and use of sign/body langugae and agreeing or countering prices. The millions who farm to feed those mocking him - are in the same category. They are no less Nigerians and they are well plugged into the country's economy.
People who dehumanise others for not speaking English should question their own education and humanity. Even in the UK (home of the English language), many Eastern Europeans at car washes speak no English. Same with Asians working in kitchens across Europe. They still contribute to the economy.
Likewise, many southern Nigerians arrive in Greece, Spain, Italy or Malta (via the Sahara Desert, Libya and the Mediterranean Sea) without speaking a word of the local language until they gradually learn it.

4. On ethnic profiling
A simple example: Kano struggles with youth drug abuse. Almost all documented drug traffickers arrested in Kano and in many states across the north are southern Nigerians of a particular ethnicity. Their tribesmen operate street corner “Patent Medicine Stores” suspected of selling these drugs that are destroying the northern youth and fueling insecurity. Yet their kinsmen have lived, prospered, and contributed legitimately in Kano for decades.
If some vigilantes in Kano decided to profile everyone from that ethnicity based solely on the crimes of a few, a legitimate motorcycle spare parts shop owner, and many other innocents, could be harassed as a drug dealers. Lives and livelihoods could be lost.
This is exactly the type of xenophobia S/Africans displayed recently, which we all condemned.
More southerners live in the north than northerners who live in the south (estimated to a factor 1:50), if profiling becomes widespread, we all know who would suffer more.
If someone makes you uncomfortable in your neighbourhood, report to the authorities. That is your civic duty. The harassment and dehumanisation of that boy could endanger an innocent young Nigerian simply trying to survive.
If in doubt, report, don’t take the law into your own hands and persecute.
Pls let’s all calm down.

ETHNIC PROFILING! 💔
Calling on the @OfficialDSSNG, the @PoliceNG, @BayelsaStateGov and HE @govdouyediri to urgently investigate this unfortunate incidence and take action.
I also call on other states governments in southern Nigeria to be vigilant and be ready to swiftly intervene in situations like this, because if nothing is done, it could easily escalate into a much bigger crisis on both sides of the Niger.
Every ethnic group in Nigeria has its own share of misguided individuals, hot-headed youths, and uninformed people, and in their hands, a video like this may be interpreted as a call to arms against fellow Nigerians erroneously labelled as “invaders”, if they sympathised with the faceless perpetrator in the video, or as a direct attack on their own community or ethnicity, if they identified with the victim.
Considering how quickly things spread on social media nowadays, this could lead to a retributive escalation, adding another layer of concern to our already burdened security set up.
This is exactly how unnecessary tension and violence start: one misinformed and irrational person can cause damage simply because nobody addressed the root of the problem.
As far as the law is concerned, no Nigerian needs a visa (or a reason) to travel to or live anywhere in his/her country for business or personal reasons.
So why are some individuals in one part of the country acting as security agents stopping, intimidating and harassing other Nigerians?

According to a Press Release by Dalit activists and academics mobilized by SADAN, all Hindus are “oppressors”. This is #EthnicProfiling which says Hindus, a religious minority group in Canada, or elsewhere in any numbers, have no human rights nor equal protection under law. SADAN et al are opposing our e-petition in the House of Commons to Recognize Hinduphobia.
More reason for everyone to sign our e-Petition. #HinduHumanRights
