Started working on the #feedandgo companion app for the pi-feeder. Have the project back to a good place now. Completed account and feeder authentication which is huge. Starting on app to feeder communication next and modifying account settings.
I added the program that controls the buttons & initiates feedings to the feeder today. I scheduled my first feeding for tomorrow morning @ 5:45am! Excited to see if the inaugural run will be successful #feedandgo #hack #rapsberrypi
The fruits of my labor #RaspberryPi #feedandgo still lots of work to do on the software side, but that’s in my wheelhouse #diy
Pulled an all nighter as if I was 10 years younger than I actually am, BUT the motor is FIXED. Raspberry pi cat feeder is officially done from a hardware standpoint and just needs to be mounted into the #feedandgo, then work on the software resumes! #raspberrypi #diy
#feedandgo update since it's been a minute. There's a bit left to solder, but my tools are meh. Need to remove work done for prototyping, & my soldering iron is not up to the task. Luckily there's a fablab nearby, but scheduling & making sure they have what I need takes time.
Did a wiring diagram! soldering onto permanent board. I did okay; I’ll let my coworker clean up some of the places where I did less-okay. This is the attachment points for the pi and motor control. Next: soldering clock & touchpads, mounting into feeder #feedandgo #raspberrypi
Yay touch pads trigger the feeder! Positioning still janky while I wait for a sensor to come in the mail. Pretty much just need to get it talking to the cloud to trigger feedings #itshappening #raspberrypi #feedandgo
It’s alive and still loud AF #feedandgo #raspberrypi #hack #cats my cat first tried to find food— then hissed at it lol. I feel about the same.
Now with power to the motor! Time to start testing to make sure I’m giving it enough power to move the tray with food. Then writing programs to trigger this via the App #raspberrypi #feedandgo #hack #actuallyhappening
Back in business! Resoldered headers and set up a real time clock so pets are still fed even if the internet goes out. Also making good headway on the app: authentication and profiles are done. Next up: getting power to the motor driver #feedandgo #pihack #raspberrypi
Making lots of progress on the software side of things while I wait for parts to be mailed. Can now authenticate users/upload profile pic, add profile info. #feedandgo #diy #raspberrypi #aws
This guy officially can talk to AWS IOT core. Aka the cat feeder can ping the “cloud” for schedule updates. #feedandgo #iot #cats #raspberrypi
The gearbox moves! Now I’m just researching components that fit well and starting on the app #feedandgo #diy #RaspberryPi
Raspberry pi is officially set up as a WiFi access point. Today: get the gearbox moving #feedandgo #fixit
The tear down has begun. Will hopefully have instructions to fix this thing by the end of this journey. #feedandgo #internetofshittythings #IoT
So... what is everyone doing with their #FeedandGo since the company decided to just disappear off the planet? Mass bonfire?
You mean defrauding thousands of pet owners and causing real health problems for thousands of hungry pets with a sudden takedown of the system. You are the worst kind of "entrepreneur" - get ready for a class action lawsuit #feedandgo #marissamcdaniel
#FeedAndGo made a great Internet-connected pet feeder, but just abruptly ceased operations, leaving ALL of their customers high and dry! The cloud-based service they just shut off is required to set up the feeders. Maybe a more ethical outfit like @ring could pick up the pieces?
@ZanHyann @DoctorKimberley @kateisgreat_ @aitala @anthonydpaul @mzbedelia @amazon Turned ours on today to find out they shut down. #wtf #feedandgo no communication nothing
