And I remembered the time circumstances forced me to go there myself — and the madness I witnessed with my own eyes. But it didn’t end there. All night, sleepless and haunted by those thoughts, I kept thinking about the price of that sack… and how many lives we’ve lost for it. I thought about my friend’s mother, who will hear that cheap price in the market — the same price her son disappeared forever for. And I thought about our neighbor’s wife, who will see his face every time she bakes a loaf of bread. I always get lost trying to find the point where this tragedy might end… but I never find it. This sorrow — we know it well. And it seems that it knows no one but us, my friends.

🇮🇹 Genoa dockworkers block Saudi ship carrying arms bound for Israel On Aug. 7, dockworkers in Genoa mounted a dawn blockade against the Saudi vessel Bahri Yanbu, refusing to load an Oto Melara cannon made by Italian arms giant Leonardo and other military cargo. The ship — arriving from Baltimore, Maryland — was already carrying weapons, ammunition, explosives, armored vehicles, and tanks, including shipments bound for Israel. Around 40 workers boarded to inspect and document the shipment, declaring: “We don’t work for war.” The action, led by base unions USB and CALP with support from major federations, prompted the Port Authority to pledge talks on creating a “permanent observatory on arms trafficking.” It follows a July action when Genoa dockers — tipped off by Greek port unions — blocked military-grade steel headed for Israel. Union leaders warned that handling such cargo makes workers complicit in war crimes and the Gaza genocide, vowing further mobilizations ahead of an international dockworkers’ assembly in September.

The Coalition supports actions taken by the United States of America to ensure that the Iranian regime is stopped from acquiring nuclear weapons. It was made clear by the International Atomic and Energy Agency on 12 June that Iran was in breach of its Non-Proliferation Treaty obligations after stockpiling more than 400 kilograms of 60 per cent enriched uranium at Fordow—the last step towards a nuclear weapon. The world can never accept a nuclear-armed Iranian regime and today the United States military has taken proactive action to ensure that we never need to. A nuclear armed Iranian regime would be a serious and direct threat to world peace and stability, especially as it continues to engage in terrorism including by supporting its proxies: Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in southern Lebanon and the Houthis in Yemen. While Australians will never seek conflict in the world we can never forget that the Iranian regime is a militantly theocratic autocracy. It expressly seeks the destruction of our allies, enacts extrajudicial killings of political dissidents and brutally represses the rights of women and girls. It is the Iranian people who are the victims of this brutal regime and we stand in solidarity with them. The Coalition stands with the United States of America today. We can never allow the Iranian regime the capacity to enact its objectives of the destruction of the United States and Israel.
