Excited to share that our new study has been just published in @MolMetab .
In this work, we uncover an unexpected role for kidney #GLUT2 in regulating whole-body energy metabolism under non-diabetic conditions.
By selectively deleting GLUT2 in kidney proximal tubule cells, we disrupted glucose reabsorption and observed a systemic metabolic shift: increased food intake, enhanced carbohydrate oxidation, greater fat and lean mass, and a significantly improved lipid profile. These systemic changes were driven by renal metabolic reprogramming, including elevated #taurine and #creatine reabsorption, overactivation of #mTORC1 signaling, and increased #endocannabinoid tone.
This study challenges the conventional view of the kidney as a passive glucose filter and highlights its active role in maintaining energy homeostasis.
