SCSN National Proposes Strategic Partnership & Inclusions with Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (ICCON) to Expand Graduate Induction for Nigerian Chemistry Graduates and facilitate it better. The National Executive Council of the Students' Chemical Society of Nigeria (SCSN), under the leadership of the National President, Hon. Comr. Elijah Oluwatobiloba Oyepade (GCSCSN), has formally submitted a proposal to the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (ICCON), seeking a strategic partnership that will strengthen the Graduate Induction Programme of the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (GMICCON) and create a more structured pathway for chemistry graduates into the profession. The proposal seeks the formal inclusion of SCSN in the planning, coordination, and implementation of the Graduate Induction Programme, recognizing the Society's position as the umbrella body representing chemistry students across tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Speaking on the initiative, the National President stated that the proposal is aimed at bridging the gap between academic training and professional practice while ensuring that every eligible chemistry graduate is adequately informed and provided with an accessible pathway into the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria. As part of the proposal, SCSN requested official clarification on ICCON's statutory framework, graduate membership pathway, eligibility requirements, induction procedures, professional benefits available to participants, and opportunities for long-term collaboration between both organizations. The National Executive Council also proposed the commencement of a pilot phase within the South-West geopolitical zone, with Ibadan, Oyo State, recommended as the host location due to its strategic accessibility and the concentration of tertiary institutions offering Chemistry programmes. The pilot programme is expected to include: - Courtesy visits to Chemistry Departments under university managements. - Student awareness and orientation campaigns. - Centralized registration and data collation coordinated through SCSN structures. - Collaboration with ICCON officials to ensure effective programme delivery. Following a successful pilot phase, SCSN proposed that the initiative be expanded across the remaining geopolitical zones to ensure nationwide participation. In addition, the Society appealed that chemistry graduates from the last two academic sessions who may have missed previous induction opportunities be considered eligible for participation during the pilot exercise. Recognizing the scale of nationwide coordination required, SCSN also proposed a structured framework through which the Society would coordinate student mobilization, institutional engagement, publicity, data management, and implementation logistics in collaboration with ICCON. The Society reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and effective programme delivery throughout the implementation process. The National Executive Council expressed confidence that a strategic partnership between SCSN National and ICCON will significantly improve awareness of the chemistry profession, increase graduate participation in professional practice, strengthen collaboration between academia and industry, and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of chemical sciences in Nigeria. SCSN remains committed to protecting the interests of chemistry students and graduates while promoting professionalism, innovation, and excellence within the chemical sciences.
