30 January 1649. King Charles I (aged 48), was executed outside the Banqueting House in Whitehall, London. He was judged guilty of treason by the High Court of the Civil War rebel, Rump Parliament. A huge crowd had gathered in the bitterly cold weather to watch the execution.
#OTD in 1603 the Stuart dynasty took the throne of England, through this man - James VI of Scotland, who succeeded Elizabeth I to become James I of England (1603-1625).
