Despite years of advocacy, #Meiteilon was excluded from the Union Cabinet’s recent decision to grant classical language status to 5 other languages, Marathi, Assamese, Bengali, Pali, and Prakrit. The exclusion has left many disheartened, despite Manipuri’s rich literary heritage.
Recognition of #Meiteilon as classical language needs serious consideration to preserve and promote it's antique civilisational heritage.

Congratulations on this phenomenal language being accorded the status of a Classical Language. This honour acknowledges the rich cultural contribution of Marathi in our nation’s history. Marathi has always been a cornerstone of Indian heritage.
I am sure with the status of a Classical Language, many more people will be motivated to learn it.
The Council of Tribal Languages and #Literature Societies, Manipur has expressed great happiness and “feels truly heartening to know that the Government of India has allocated a fund of Rs.18 crore as the first instalment for conservation and promotion of #Meiteilon (#Manipuri)”. Very happy to see the recognition our Meiteilon has received. We hope the money would be spent properly on promoting and preserving #Meiteilon. We hope this money don't go to any of the Babu's pocket.
I sincerely thank and deeply appreciate Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri @narendramodi ji for giving due recognition to Manipuri language and its script by allocating a funding of Rs 18 crore as 1st installment for their conservation and promotion.
I further extend my appreciation to Hon’ble Rajya Sabha MP, @MaharajaManipur for his continued efforts to elevate the status of Manipuri as a classical language.
Besides the promotion of Meiteilon, the state government has been putting efforts to protect the tribal dialects spoken in the state with various courses, activities and programs.
@beethangjam @YamnaPendrey I noticed them trying in vain to look like #MeiraPaibis, inspired them but for all the wrong reasons. I can hear them speaking in #Meiteilon too, defying and ridiculing the ban imposed on them by their own #KukiNarcoTerrorists.
