@KarenCampe @MandyMathEd @MT_at_NCTM A3: Yes - because that is mostly all that they experience. When exposed to multiple proof formats, students often choose the flow proof. In my experience their least favorite is the paragraph proof. #MTchat
@UDMichy @MathleteMelvin I agree with @UDMichy and @MandyMathEd. I also think that constructions can support students in understanding transformations on the plane. I find Transformational Geo Proofs to be fascinating. #MTChat
@MathleteMelvin @MandyMathEd When I was in Japan, I observed 7th graders develop their own strategies for constructions (e.g., bisecting an angle). I was so impressed. I didn't even know that these could be taught through exploration! #MTchat
@MandyMathEd @UDMichy I loved teaching constructions, and when I taught them after the congruence proofs, I was surprised to see that students used more empirical methods instead of their knowledge of proofs to try to solve them. Using constructions to gain that familiarity is a good idea! #MTchat
