Please explain how you’re “fostering better outcomes” when we know disabled people are being kept in legislated poverty? “Fostering” would mean people are receiving what they need to live in dignity. That’s clearly not the case anywhere in the country. #NDIP
On International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, we recognize the experiences of people living in poverty.
That’s why our province is fostering better outcomes for people experiencing poverty. 👇

Which leads us to how much worse it is for disabled people all across the country that are kept in legislative DEEP poverty. TO SOLVE THIS, WE NEED A FEDERAL NATIONAL DISABILITY INSURANCE MODEL OF SUPPORT FOR ALL THOSE WITH LIFELONG DISABILITIES FROM BIRTH TO END OF LIFE. #NDIP
Yesterday Ontario’s minimum wage increased by 35 cents, falling well below the threshold of a living wage across our province. In my own community of Waterloo we would need to see the minimum wage grow by over $5.00 before it would meet the threshold of a living wage. #onpoli
Adding to the spread between the have’s and the have not’s. At the very bottom are those with disabilities, and others made most vulnerable, by systems that keep them there. ALL Canadians need to step up. #NDIP https://t.co/HaZzobf6vp.
Report: Ontario spent $4 billion over 8 years on private facility funding, which has been increasing faster than funding for hospitals. The effect on wait times? They’re rising. https://t.co/1ZZwVgpIld @CTVNews

"Defining Excellence"

It’s in an awful state. We need a solution such as a National Disability Insurance Plan would provide. A plan based on disability need, lifetime support, income security, by entitlement, non income tested and portable across the country. One plan, one voice. #NDIP

#Maytree’s #Welfare in Canada report is the primary source for evaluating Canada’s progress on fulfilling the human right to an adequate standard of living for households receiving social assistance.
This webinar presented the main findings of the 2025 edition, offered additional analysis, and shared Maytree’s recommendations for improving the incomes of people receiving social assistance.
The webinar also highlighted the impact of the loss of the Canada Carbon Rebate in 2025, leading to a broader analysis of the federal government’s role in ensuring income security, particularly for unattached single adults.
The conversation brought together report authors Jennefer Laidley and Tania Oliveira, with insights from Alexi White, Maytree’s Director of Systems Change.
Maytree president Elizabeth McIsaac moderated the discussion."

Great session with @cardiffcouncil #family #parenting for @CIWtraining looking at needs led approaches for neurodivergent parents/carers. Understanding the heavier load of differences and need for whole system support. @DelythJewellAM @WG_Education @WGHealthandCare #NDIP #NEST

We must go upstream and meet holistic needs but this doesn’t rely on ALNCO alone - it’s a whole school approach.
Time to review the ALN Code and move to #inclusion #neurodivergence

#NDIP To provide those with disabilities the support, based on need, from birth to end of life. https://t.co/YmTxMTrCNa
Without a plan like this we have nothing but words.

It’s strange how all parties voted on that promise, but when it was reduced to 10% of the poverty rate there was barely a squeak and they all went along with it. #NDIP
@PierrePoilievre @JohnBrassardCPC How Ethical is it for the Liberal Government to promise Disabled Canadians they'd be lifted out of poverty.. have that promise repeated OVER and OVER for FOUR YEARS.. and then cut that benefit 80% before a single payment is made.
How ethical is it ?
WHY DO YOU NOT ENGAGE ?
Scary thought that PWD/disabled people should have their disability costs covered.
That would set them up for success and we can’t have that now can we?
See how stupid that reality sounds?

@avilewis must speak to and design a policy that not only speaks to the inadequacy of the Canada Disability Benefit but the entire system that devalues people with disabilities not just for us as a voting block but to Canadians in general. The thinking about how human value is measured must change… and then it will change for everyone. Human value is more than the job you have, or do not have or don’t have the wellness to perform. It is the essence of the soul that counts: how one expresses, experiences life in community, in music, in ideas, in feelings, in light and in darkness. Every human being deserves safety and housing, healthcare and food and community. There must be no hierarchy with these essential things. #pwd
‘It’ never stops. Why is it so difficult for disabled persons to receive the support they ‘justly’ deserve. #NDIP
The illusion that you will get rid of poverty in disability with a guaranteed liveable income is troubling. We must get rid of the cost of disability, or the disabled poor, will still be poor. #NDIP
As we mark National AccessAbility Week, I extend my heartfelt gratitude and solidarity to disability advocates and organizations who have worked tirelessly to make Canada more equitable and inclusive for everyone.
Discussions about building an accessible Canada must include addressing the systemic human rights violations. As signatories to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, we must uphold the rights of the disability community.
The disability community has been forced into legislated poverty due to limited income supplements that have a high administrative burden to apply for. I extend my solidarity to all those fighting to decrease the administrative barriers. These income and administrative barriers underscore the importance of implementing a guaranteed livable basic income to ensure that everyone has access to a dignified income while eliminating administrative burdens.
The @NDP remains steadfast in our commitment to dismantling these barriers and ensuring the disability community can live in dignity. We know that building a "Canada Strong" means building a Canada that upholds disability justice, ensures human rights are upheld, and leaves no one behind.
“The letter states Ford's comments shortly after the ruling are "a serious attack on the constitutional principle of judicial independence and raise profound concerns regarding judicial security and the administration of justice in Ontario."

The fellow who caused the homelessness crisis by freezing shelter allowances as rents doubled sure doesn’t like the minuscule protection the law gives to its victims. https://t.co/3cyZTYoCYM
What do we want? A publicly funded national disability insurance plan for all those with lifelong disabilities from birth to end of life. When do we want it? Yesterday!
#NDIP
The same in all provinces and territories. It’s why we need a federal publicly funded disability insurance model of support for those with lifelong disabilities from birth to end of life. One plan! #NDIP
People on ODSP live $10,700 below the poverty line.
There are people in Ontario who become disabled every day.
Getting hit by a drunk driver, and having to use a wheelchair for the remainder of your life.
You have spinal stenosis, having undergone four spinal surgeries (and counting).
Many people have no family or friends who can help them financially.
Many receive financial assistance from people on occasion.
If you belive the Government should increase the ODSP amount by $10,700 a year, which would bring a disabled person in Ontario up to the poverty level, call your Provincial Member of Parliament, and ask for financial assistance.
The folks at the MPPs office will no doubt tell you to go visit a food bank and such, but let them know how long you have been disabled, and on ODSP, and that you have exhausted your options, and need help today.
Be forceful, but definitely be polite.
Call your MPP once a week, as they have to log each call.
Be persistent, but only call once a week.
Make notes before you make the call to your MPP, so that your call with the MPPs office will be beneficial for you.
Let your MPP know that ODSP is below the poverty line.
If you are physically able to (most disabled people are not) journey to the office of your MPP.
If you feel comfortable doing so, share your MPP experience here with others,
Everyone being consistent and persistent will be heard.
Damn shame.

Great video exposing the hatred of injured workers by workers compensation boards across Canada. @WSIB @WCBPEI @WCBAlberta @saskwcb @WorkSafeBC
Why do they hate us so much for our only perceived crime was to be injured by our employer's workplace!
