Sloan's journey began with the basics - grooming Ranger. Every stroke of the brush was a lesson in patience and love. Sloan would sit beside Ranger, her wheelchair, on a platform from which she learned the art of horse care. She'd talk to Ranger, sharing her dreams, her fears, and with each passing day, her determination grew. Getting onto Ranger was a challenge Sloan faced with tenacity. She practiced with a mounting block, learning to pull herself up, her arms growing stronger with each attempt. She'd fall back, try again, and again, until one day, with the help of the owner Michael and a lot of willpower, she mounted Ranger all by herself. That day, the air was filled with cheers, not just for Sloan's achievement but for the bond that had blossomed between her and Ranger. The real magic happened when Sloan started to ride. Each session was a dance of balance and trust. Ranger moved with such care, matching Sloan's rhythm, her steps steady and sure. Sloan learned to use her core, her arms, every part of her body that could communicate with Ranger, guiding him with reins and voice, her laughter ringing across the ranch like a melody of triumph. From there, Sloan's ambitions soared. She began to compete in rodeos, adapted to events that celebrated her spirit rather than her limitations. Watching Sloan ride Ranger, weaving through obstacles or gently guiding her through patterns, was like watching poetry in motion. Her wheelchair became a symbol of her journey, not her limit. Now, Sloan and Ranger go on trial rides, exploring the landscapes that Diego Ranch offers. Sloan's wheelchair is always nearby, but she rides free, her face glowing with the joy of movement, of freedom, of being one with nature and her horse. They've become a duo, known throughout our community, inspiring others with their story of determination and love. I, Mini Maggie, often watch them from my spot in the pasture under the old oak tree, my heart swelling with pride. Sloan's journey with Ranger is a testament to the healing power of horses, to the strength of the human spirit, and to the unending possibilities when you have a friend who believes in you as much as Ranger believes in Sloan.
