#IGADHealth 📍#OngoingWorkshop | Development of a risk profile of major climate induced risks/diseases at the cross borders areas between Kenya and Ethiopia, IGAD and Partners are engaged in risk profiling with predictive modeling, utilizing multi-sectoral datasets from Health-disease surveillance, meteorological, environmental, and Disaster Risk management programs to forecast hotspots, estimate disease burdens, and identify periods of heightened risk. Addressing the workshop, Dr. Waqo Boru on #IGAD, reaffirmed IGAD’s commitment to strengthen the Climate-Health Nexus by leveraging evidence-driven approaches, innovative tools, and multi-sectoral data to enhance early warning systems, guide preparedness, and foster coordinated regional responses to emerging climate-related health threats. Dr. Daniel Langat, representing @MOHKenya emphasized that climate change was no longer a distant environmental challenge but a present and pressing health emergency, citing increasing incidences of vector and water-borne diseases accruing from recurrent floods, prolonged droughts, extreme heat events across Eastern and Southern Africa. #IGADHealth 🗓️25 - 28 August, 2025 📍Machakos, Kenya 🎯Earlier, the @IGADSecretariat, in collaboration with partners, kicked off a technical workshop to develop Risk Profiles of major climate-induced health risks in Kenya and Ethiopia, using the Strategic Toolkit for Assessing Risks (STAR) and the Strategic Risk Assessment (SRA) process. The exercise will integrate predictive modeling to project the likely health impacts of climate-related hazards under varying climate and socio-economic scenarios. Experts from Ministries of Health, Environment and Climate services alongside regional and international organizations, @AfricaCDC, @WHOAFRO and @WHOEMRO, @ECSA_HC and IGAD, on climate science and public health are participating in the workshop. One of the key activities under the Health Emergency Preparedness, Response and Resilience Programme (HEPRRP) is profiling climate induced risks in the #HEPRRP participating countries with the aim of integrating health-related climate sensitive conditions into the East Africa Hazards Watch. #HEPPRPUpdates
