A 14-year-old girl from #Pathra in #UttarPradesh's #Amroha district died on Tuesday due to delayed medical treatment - having travelled almost 350km from her home to #Meerut in search of a hospital - after two men abducted her and poured a corrosive liquid, suspected to be acid, on her on Monday evening in what police said was a "revenge attack". The girl, though she was severely burned, had initially managed to return home and tell her family about the attack, but the clinic in Meerut, where her family took her, allegedly refused to treat her and turned her away. The girl's family said #PrempalSingh, 55, and his son #Yogendra, 25, abducted her on Monday and took her to a nearby field, where they thrashed her before pouring the liquid on her. The family took her to Aarogyam Clinic in Meerut, 110km from their village, but the doctors there allegedly refused to treat her, citing the need for a medico-legal case. The girl's brother, Yashveer Singh, told to media, "Sent back by Aarogyam Clinic, we returned home to Amroha, lodged a police complaint, and took her to Meerut again, this time to LLRM Medical College. By then, we had lost precious time. She might have survived had she received timely treatment." Police investigations have linked the attack on the girl to a long-standing family feud. Amroha SP Anupam Singh said, "The attack was motivated by a 2020 murder case where Prempal and Yogendra were accused of killing the girl's uncle. They harboured a grudge against the family, believing they were framed for the murder." Both men have been arrested and booked under IPC sections 137 (kidnapping), 124 (causing grievous hurt using acid), and 351 (criminal intimidation). With the girl's death, police are considering adding more charges against the two. Aarogyam Clinic denied receiving any such case. "We did not get any such patient, and moreover, our facility doesn't treat burn patients. There may be confusion with our name," said Pradeep Jain, who runs the clinic. Authorities at LLRM Medical College in Meerut declined to comment on the extent of her injuries. Dr R C Gupta, principal of the college, said, "We do not comment on cases like acid attacks. It causes lots of problems."
