I’m a surgeon and this isn’t true. Prior Auth and P2P should be banned it’s only purpose is to generate more money for INS and harms/not helps patients. Having said that, we schedule a time,it’s on my calendar,almost always call exactly at that time and we give office phone so answered,put on hold and I pick up. Our phone system allows me to pick up “office callas” remotely. Having said that, no way I’m ever leaving my patient asleep while I’m operating to talk to an INS co…ever. Once im operating,we have already gone past point of no return. I’m going to care for the patient to best of my ability and nothing INS co would say is gonna change anything at that point. What if they denied care? You gonna stop the operation? Of course not,so focus on the patient. I really wonder if this is a hosp employed surgeon who was pressured to do this. That would be the story here. Anyone interrupting me while I’m operating and patient asleep for anything other than an emergency involving another patient can go pound sand.
