@trentengland @Stop_RCV If we can't trust Jimmy to count to 5, why do we trust Jimmy to cast a ballot?
With single-winner districts the upside is minimal. There is *huge* upside to #PropRep and the way to get there is by implementing STV (not RCV).

@innoc_bystander Dilution can't work.
#PropRep can (and does).
Pass the Fair Representation Act (plus double the size of Congress).
@AlanCrawford19 @conorjrogers Repealing 17A is also necessary but not sufficient.
We *also* need to adopt #PropRep and preferably by way of Single Transferable Voting.
Taking the Senate away from legislatures was a bad move, but it's easy to understand *why* it happened if you read a few history books.
Let's make it more simple. Only ONE change is needed:
Single Transferable Voting
#PropRep
Let’s keep this simple.
Three things that would instantly improve American government:
• End corporate lobbying
• Term limits
• Hold politicians accountable
If someone argues against this, ask them why they support corruption.
Word to the wise, as Labour's "soft-left" grifters pretend to care about actual progressive policies (anyone still in Labour at this point is a grifter and/or a narcissist) don't give them a fucking inch till Labour has nationalised water & instigated #PropRep. Then we can talk.
@BraddrofliT 1) This isn't a Democracy, and if it were, over ⅔ NEVER would have joined The Union in the first place.
2) If you want #PropRep advocate REAL #PropRep through Single Transferable Voting in The House.
Don't destroy the country by breaking the Senate.

Uk politics
The current problem is FPTP with 5-6 UK parties
Which allows each party to chase 20%. Utterly unrepresentative

@izotopium @GoodwoodAlpha @amuse This is much better solved by in-state #PropRep rather than nationalizing elections and ending up with 90% of Congress being Coastal Elites while 0% have ever lived in Montana.
Regionalizing is good. Nationalizing g is bad.

I kind of hope VRA gets struck down simply because it will result in a massive backlash and tremendous support for the Fair Representation Act which quite simply makes gerrymandering impossible.
#PropRep
The Supreme Court is threatening to strike down Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, the provision that guarantees Black Americans an equal opportunity to elect candidates of their choice.
The loss of Section 2 would mark the gravest collapse of Black representation in Congress since the end of Reconstruction and the rise of Jim Crow. Before the Voting Rights Act, most of the South went nearly a century without electing a single Black representative.
This is why #PropRep needs to happen.
Gerrymandering must vanish and large minorities need to have a seat at the table.
STV-5 solves this.
Political scientists really have not come up with a good answer to this.
Rural areas in deep blue states are just effectively colonies even if not technically. They can compete for power in free and fair elections, but never win one.
The same goes for blue enclaves in red states.
@joeyriz @micah_erfan Stick with the Republic, but move to #PropRep so that legislatures actually start looking like their constituencies.
The quickest path to a #PropRep ammendment to the Constitution is to overturn Section 2 of the VRA.
Grassroots moderates (the largest faction on both the Left and the Right) will unite to destroy the 2 party stranglehold.
This map becomes legal if the Supreme Court overturns section 2 of the VRA.
Be careful what you wish for, Republicans.

@blkprofcct It's time for a genuine #PropRep system to emerge.
Distracting exclusively by geography is stupid.
Actually, this is a solved problem.
5-seat STV solves well over 80% of all possible gerrymandering issues (because 4÷5=80%).
We need to end the falsehood that "community" = "geography"
Switch to Single Transferable Voting.
#PropRep

Minorities in a democracy with local representation can never be represented proportionately, unless there's extreme segregation, which isn't a thing anybody really claims to want.
The argument that blacks deserve a "candidate of their choice" long past the era of identifiable racial discrimination doesn't hold since you can slice up the population by any variable and realize it's impossible for that minority to have its own little district of self-determination. Men, young people, plumbers, baptists, none of these groups get the candidate of their choice because they're not units of democratic representation.
It's extremely disheartening that we've decided to keep this up and enshrine in law the LKY view of multicultural democracy as a racial head count.
