At first, I thought #Harvard & #NYU students might face stiff competition in the Midwest for “Most Appalling Campus Hate Speech.” #UWMadison administrators condoned as #ProtectedSpeech a rally where the attendees glorified #Hamas as #martyrs and chanted for “liberation” #ByAnyMeansNecessary.
But #UWMadison students weren’t responsible. “Local grassroot activist” #MadisonforPalestine was, a small Facebook group with no visible student participation that frequently criticizes the “colonizer” university. They scheduled the sit-in, then loudly celebrated the murder of Jews for 2 hours in front of the 6th largest Jewish student population in the U.S.
That’s right.
The chancellor should be more concerned about the well-being of these 5200 students than whether the #HamasAttacks will “fan the global flames of Islamophobia.”
