REPORT: Ukraine against darkness - a resilient and decentralised power system driven by renewables and supported by gas is possible but requires a massive effort until 2030 🇺🇦
🏭 Under Russia’s invasion, 60% of Ukraine’s power system capacity remains occupied, damaged, or destroyed, and the bombardments weaken the remaining coal, hydro and nuclear capacities.
📊 Our PyPSA-UA power system modelling shows that Ukraine faces an unprecedented challenge, requiring the installation of 5.4 GW of new capacity within the next 2️⃣ years and 9.2 GW more across 2027-2030.
