The @RwandaGov had / have a responsibility to issue an official statement on Brigadier General Frank #Rusagara’s death for several reasons:
1. He Was a Senior Military Officer: Despite his imprisonment, Rusagara held high-ranking positions in the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) before his conviction, including serving as a defense attaché and head of the RDF Command and Staff College. His passing is a matter of public interest.
2. He Died in Government Custody: As an inmate serving a 20-year sentence in a Rwandan military prison, his health and well-being were under state supervision. Any death in custody warrants an official acknowledgment, as the government bears responsibility for detained individuals.
3. Transparency and Public Accountability: Given the circumstances of his imprisonment, there is public interest both nationally and internationally in how he was treated. A formal statement would demonstrate transparency and address speculation regarding the conditions leading to his death.
4. Precedent in Handling High-Profile Deaths: Rwanda has previously issued statements on the deaths of public figures, including military officials. Silence on Rusagara’s death could be interpreted as an attempt to downplay or conceal details, further fueling speculation.
While the government has remained silent, the nature of his case and his military background make an official statement not only necessary but also a matter of public accountability.

Dear @IAmSteveHarvey, I am writing to express my disappointment and concern over your recent meeting and photo opportunity with President Paul Kagame in Kigali.
While I understand the importance of cultural exchanges and global interactions, it is deeply troubling to see a respected public figure like you associating with President Kagame, a man who stands accused of warmongering, totalitarianism, and human rights violations.
President Kagame's regime has been criticized internationally for its oppressive tactics and the innocent lives lost under his rule.
As you meet with Kagame, thousands of innocent people are being killed and millions are displaced in the neighboring DRC due to actions by the Rwandan Defense Forces and the M23 rebel movement, which was created and controlled by President Paul Kagame.
By posing for a picture and calling President Kagame a brother @IAmSteveHarvey, you inadvertently offers legitimacy and a platform to enhance Kagame's tarnished image, which undermines the efforts of those advocating for justice and human rights in Rwanda and beyond.
This meeting was a missed opportunity to hold leaders accountable rather than enabling their continued disregard for democratic principles and human rights.
It is crucial for public figures to recognize the influence they carry and to use their platforms to promote positive change and accountability.
I urge you @IAmStevenHarvey to reflect on this encounter and consider your responsibility to align with principles of justice and human dignity.
