@CPSummitCounty We love what you're doing in Summit County and appreciate your passion behind safe storage and safe disposal! We're mailing pouches to anyone who needs them nationwide through https://t.co/KHKoEM1WyS. #SafeRxChat #NPW2020
@CPSummitCounty Alcohol interacts with a ton of prescription medications. Alcohol can increase risk of bleeding with blood thinners like warfarin, increase risk of overdose with benzodiazepines and opioids, and increase the risk of liver damage with medications like acetaminophen #SafeRxChat
A3. For people who are shut-in, we find at-home disposal tools to be ideal. In Ohio, anyone can request a free bag at https://t.co/DMayC60Y7O In the US, @DeterraSystem & @SAFEprojectUS are shipping free pouches as well. https://t.co/GdDNBmehau #SafeRxChat #NPW2020
@CPSummitCounty @KarilynnDowling I know local community pharmacies have Drug Disposal Boxes! #SafeRxChat
These are great recommendations! Between @KarilynnDowling & @AaronSalwan we're seeing pharmacists who deeply care about their patients & are willing & available to help patients use medicine safely. Thank you! #SafeRxChat #NPW2020
@CPSummitCounty I struggle with that too! A simple daily phone alert is an option for many people. The classic 7-day pillbox is also a great visual. Lastly, call your pharmacist- they can help you figure out how many days should be left in your bottle and get you back on track. #SafeRxChat

We love the idea of pairing taking medicine with a daily habit. Great suggestion! #SafeRxChat #NPW2020
@CPSummitCounty @KarilynnDowling My advice would be to try and develop a routine and stick with it. Everyone is going to be different when it comes to what reminders work, but setting an alarm, keeping a journal, pairing taking your medication with everyday activities like brushing your teeth or having coffee!
@KarilynnDowling Great point! In our community, we have permanent drug boxes @SCPHOH and people can pick up a free at-home drug disposal bag at several pharmacy partners like Summit County Discount Drug Mart locations & @acmefreshmarket. #SafeRxChat #NPW2020
Thank you @AaronSalwan. This is an important point - taking expired medicine to manage a complicated disease can be problematic. #SafeRxChat #NPW2020
@CPSummitCounty #SafeRxChat To ensure that you're getting the most potent, safe product, it's recommended to not take medication beyond the expiration date. They may not be as effective, especially if they are used to manage a complicated disease state such as heart disease.
@CPSummitCounty A1: Second, the biannual DEA Drug Take Back Day scheduled for April 2020 was postponed indefinitely. When I volunteer at those events, I hear from many citizens who think it is the only opportunity of the year to dispose of their meds. That's actually not true. #SafeRxChat
We love it! Neighbors supporting each other is a key to helping our communities thrive. How are you seeing neighbors support each other in safe medicine practices? #SafeRxChat #NPW2020
@CPSummitCounty A1: As a pharmacist, I have two major concerns about SafeRx usage during the pandemic. First, more time at home means more opportunities for accidental drug exposure. Secure home storage is a must! #SafeRxChat
Thanks for hosting a discussion on safe medication use, storage and disposal SCCP! #SafeRxChat
@CPSummitCounty Thank you for having me! I get a lot of questions regarding drug interactions and whether or not medications are safe to take together, along with storage and disposal options when there is no longer a need for the medication #SafeRxChat
