As you're aware, last week I posted about the 9 Mawana elephants (pregnant mums and calves included) who were hunted and gunned down by killers in helicopters and Land cruisers). I want to know, where is the fkn outrage by all these international (and local) NGOS?

Tragedy struck in KZN on August 31st when nine free-roaming Mawana elephants, including four pregnant cows, were brutally slaughtered. This heartbreaking incident exposes the urgent need for corruption-free conservation methods and community-driven solutions.
● The alarming reality:

For nearly a decade, EKZN and local communities warned about the Mawana elephants, introduced to the region under questionable circumstances. Despite significant financial resources allocated toward land-development based conservation efforts, critical protection and mitigation measures were consistently overlooked. It's crucial to reassess the effectiveness of current strategies and ensure resources reach those making a tangible difference on the ground — those who can read the landscape accurately and offer tangible solutions.
● A last-ditch effort led by @ExposeLion and sponsored by #GMFER and @Action4ElliesUK attempted to prevent the massacre and support local communities through low-cost mitigative measures, i.e., signage and raising awareness. However, the elephants were still brutally killed through a "low-cost" cull, leaving behind a devastating scene of lifeless mothers and fleeing calves.
● The way forward:

Land development based conservation must be permitted only in the presence of robust accountability, transparency, and the full engagement of local communities.

For the Elephants of Mawana, where is home?
• Will they live? #SaveMawanaElephants
• In an astounding twist of fate and in the midst of mismanagement, exploitation, discord and chronic disregard for community concerns, a herd of earth's great walkers may pay the ultimate price: LIFE.
• The Earth has known elephants for 53 million years, far longer than she has known humans; still, for the elephants of Mawana, an ancient and rich culture and a fierce will to live may not guarantee the "right to life".
• The non compliance notice issued -by the government- to the 'owners' of the herd requires the elephants to be herded back to Mawana reserve AND secured with elephant-proof fencing. Alternatively, translocation is an option.
