We are making important improvements before #ISMBECCB2023! RawHash now supports all major file formats for storing #nanopore raw signals, with the recent addition of #SLOW5. Up next: #MinKNOW support and optimizations for R10. Thanks to many people for their very useful feedback!

RawHash now supports #POD5! https://t.co/tnjWHAn5SC So far ~2X runtime improvements (over #FAST5) thanks to better thread utilization and pipelining with faster data reading. Mapping throughput during adaptive sampling is unchanged though. @nanopore

Slow5tools is a key piece of the growing #SLOW5 ecosystem for @nanopore data, which includes a mature data format; a slow5 basecaller (buttery-eel); slow5 libraries in C, python & rust; plus many open source tools with slow5 integration. slow5 vs pod5/fast5 is 🍏vs🍊

Exciting news! Our paper on slow5tools is now published in @GenomeBiology. If you're not using SLOW5 format yet, you're missing out a lot! https://t.co/0H6G3B1eVe

Surprisingly, POD5 also provides a slight improvement in mapping accuracy, but this is simply due to the lost precision of “scale” when converting it with atof() from FAST5 files. Thanks for providing the scale value as float in POD5, which prevents precision loss. Soon #SLOW5!

Basecalling of #SLOW5 using #Guppy (the normal #nanopore basecaller) is now available for everyone (our lab had it working earlier but couldn't share that method because of IP restrictions).

Ever wanted to basecall SLOW5 files with guppy? Your wish has been granted! @Hasindu2008 and I are happy to introduce: The buttery-eel - a slow5 guppy basecaller wrapper https://t.co/6VH7N6cDWG

Converted all data for our https://t.co/E82QywlkjF paper (37 @nanopore minion #readfish selective seq runs) into #SLOW5. Savings are substantial! 9TB->5TB=4TB saving (46%). Higher than 25% reported in our SLOW5 paper abstract manuscript https://t.co/BKGW1O0Zwm
