This important event has been jointly organized by @RBCRwanda ,@RwandaNGOForum ( @Knooliet ) and local government bringing together key stakeholders committed to the fight against Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs).
This year’s commemoration highlights the critical role of youth engagement in preventing, controlling, and ultimately eliminating Neglected tropical Diseases and Leprosy. @MalariaNTDcorps and other Young people have been at the forefront, raising awareness in communities, promoting behavior change, and supporting public health interventions.
As we mark World NTDs Day, we reaffirm our collective commitment to strengthening partnerships, empowering communities, and ensuring that no one is left behind in the fight against NTDs.
Together, through collaboration and active youth participation, we can end NTDs.

Happening Now in @RuhangoDistrict
Today, Rwanda joins the global community in commemorating World Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) and Leprosy Day.
Across the country, efforts to eliminate Neglected Tropical Diseases continue, with a strong focus on youth engagement as key drivers of change. Young people are playing a critical role in community awareness, behavior change, and the promotion of good sanitation and hygiene practices that are essential for preventing NTDs.
In Ruhango District, an event organized by @RBCRwanda in collaboration with @RwandaNGOForum, @WAGRwanda, also engaging @MalariaNTDcorps (under Rwanda NGO Forum) @Knooliet, in partnership with @ALMA_2030, has brought together community, youth, civil society, and WASH partners. The event is held under the theme:
“Unite in WASH Implementation in the Control and Elimination of Diseases Related to Poor Sanitation and Hygiene,”
translated as “Tujyanemo mu isuku n’isukura duhashye indwara ziterwa n’umwanda.”
Through this initiative community especially youth are empowered as advocates and community mobilizers, helping to raise awareness, promote hygiene and sanitation practices, and support Rwanda’s commitment to eliminating NTDs and improving public health for all.

Across Rwanda, activities aimed at eliminating Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) continue to be implemented with youth engagement.
Below are some of these activities visited by the @RBCRwanda team and partners as we prepare to commemorate World NTDs Day.
This year, the energy is shifting! Youth through @MalariaNTDcorps working under @RwandaNGOForum and @Knooliet, in partnership with @ALMA_2030, are part of the movement.
✅ @NgomaDistrict: Ongoing dog and cat registration activities are being conducted to prepare them for vaccination. A total of 948 dogs and 374 cats were registered.
✅ @GatsiboDistrict: A rice farmers’ cooperative in Rugarama constructed 128 latrines to eliminate open defecation, which is one of the risk factors for bilharzia (schistosomiasis) and intestinal worms.
✅ @BugeseraDistr: Nearly 3,000 community members were educated on controlling the breeding sites of infected snails, the main cause of bilharzia.
✅ In @CityofKigali: Visits were conducted to @RwandaAgriBoard (Laboratory) responsible for monitoring dog health and providing vaccinations. We also visited @WAGRwanda, an organization dedicated to animal welfare, where we observed how stray dogs that pose risks to people and livestock are rescued, cared for, vaccinated, and rehomed with capable families.
Eliminating neglected tropical diseases is possible.

Today, we celebrate #WorldNTDsDay2026, we were on the ground in Ruhango District, Ruhango Sector, standing with the community in the fight against Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs).
We engage community members on practical actions they can take to help end NTDs from improving hygiene and sanitation to seeking early treatment and spreading accurate information.
We also spoke louder to the youth, because let’s be real: youth energy, creativity, and leadership have the power to drive real change and stop NTDs for good.
As Rwanda Malaria and NTDs Youth Corps, we showcased our work and initiatives in our stands, encouraging people to understand NTDs, care about them, and take action. Ending NTDs isn’t just a policy goal it’s a community mission, and everyone has a role to play.
The message is clear: when communities are informed and youth are engaged, impact follows.
Together, through awareness, hygiene, and collective action, we can end NTDs.
