After several weeks off for family, I'm astounded at what I've come back to. I've already heard horrific stories of IMGs accosted going to work by emboldened racists & islamophobes.
As per @chezzy319 & @CentreforIMGs, you are welcome & valued. Leaders, we must #SupportIMGs
@JMeddings, appreciate your pride in the ๐จ๐ฆsystem, but we have an imperfect admission system & great ppl train abroad. They should be repatriated.
If IMGs leave their country to contribute to Canadian society, we have a moral obligation to #supportIMGs too.
Don't you agree?
We either need to increase the supply of foreign MD's or train more.
This is also simple to me. Canada has one of the worlds best MD training systems. So unless we had no applicants for it why would we accept an inferior training system?
We should train our own. /3

Agree, we must not repeat these travesties. The system must collaborate to implement Fair to Refer; Caring for doctors, caring for patients; Welcoming and Valuing IMGs - the induction work led by @RaoMala and BAPIO's wonderful LED Charter. #SupportIMGs
@1CherianGeorge @gmcuk @BIDAUK @NHSEmployers @NHSEngland Hear Hear! There is honestly no reasonable excuse not to. Moral responsibility to #SupportIMGs & if that argument isn't enough (it should be) it also improves workforce productivity - because we're looking after our people.
Thank you Partha. This is a poignant read. And as Partha says, it *still* happens today, not that it was ever OK.
Please adopt Welcoming and Valuing IMGs & think about how we can #SupportIMGs through every day human connection.

โOur desire to improve morale of #IMG needs to be much wider than hashtags or coffee vouchersโand it needs more of a human touchโ

If you feel more "foreign doctors" like me deserve a more streamlined (& humane) route into joining our wonderful profession then please put your name to this letter from the @rcgp #SupportIMGs #TeamGP #InItTogether
(1/4) Weโre calling on @UKHomeOffice to improve visa rules for international trainee doctors which are acting as a barrier to recruiting the GPs we need. Sign our letter and join us to improve visa rules for international trainee GPs โก๏ธ https://t.co/LY5OXruAWw
Glad to had the chance to help support future IMGs joining this amazing place โบ๏ธ #SupportIMGs
@RaoMala @appne_official @BAPIOUK The guidance has robustly clarified #IMGInduction expected by our IMGs & empowered us 2 challenge NHS employing organisations if there are gaps. All stakeholders have promised to support #IMGInduction to #supportIMGs, so now we need 2 nudge our NHS Trusts to deliver it on ground
@_SameerAhmed_ @TaquaDahab @RaoMala @parthaskar @tcgannon @Mennahelwan1 @LTFinNHS Thats why all of us shouldn't/won't let the momentum die!
So, yesterday was only small stop on a long journey; and we know our final destination is to ensure 100% IMGs feel welcomed & supported in the NHS. #IMGInduction to #SupportIMGs
@TaquaDahab Thanks, Its a start & all stakeholders now agree on what an ideal #IMGInduction looks like to #supportIMGs
It should empower us locally, regionally & nationally, use guidance as lever and make the change
You have power behind you @RaoMala @parthaskar @tcgannon @_SameerAhmed_
Thank you Dr @SujeshBansal. We need many more of you to welcome and value our IMGs who form a significant proportion of NHS workforce. Indeed by providing better support to IMGs, it will be a 'win-win' situation for everyone.
#IMGinduction #SupportIMGs
@LTFinNHS @Ahmed29Saeed @RaoMala @bathika @tcgannon @RamkissonR1 @_SameerAhmed_ In 2012, was apointed as the 1st IMG Lead @MFTnhs, one of the most satisfying 'role' have done as an Educator. Enhanced Induction, supervision & support of IMGs meant 'win for all'. So highly recommended. You will make real high-impact changes in the learning experience of #IMGs
Are you a HR / medical staffing professional in the NHS dealing with International Medical Graduates (IMGs)?
Find out how HR can #SupportIMGs by attending the #IMGinduction launch on Monday, the 27th of June
