Reading poetry is like reading music. There is a flow and a rhythm to poetry that reading it like a book would take away from the poem. Something Pullman recounts his teacher making him do as a child. #wtcpull @USAOWTC

If someone doesn’t want to understand something they’re not going to, no matter what you say or how you explain it. Not everybody enjoys poetry so if you force it on someone they’re not even going to attempt to see the beauty behind it. #WTCPull

High school English classes always treated poetry like a foreign language where you systematically looked at every chunk of text and were spoon-fed the meaning behind it by the teacher. I never even considered the fact that some are meant to be read out loud @USAOWTC #WTCPull

I totally think Pullman was right by saying classroom's have become torture chambers through the over analyzation of poetry. I'm ready to read Paradise Lost and just enjoy it rather than trying to squeeze out meaning from every single detail @USAOWTC #wtcpull

I have never been great at deciphering a poem and have not read many poems, but seeing how passionately Pullman talks about Paradise Lost makes me wish I had the desire to read more poems. The way Pullman puts it into a different explanation is fascinating to me. #wtcpull

#WTCPull Pullman's intro exposed the poetic soul inside me who wishes everyday was as romantic as a coming to age movie. "Innocence is not wise, and wisdom cannot be innocent, and if we are going to do any good in the world we have to leave childhood behind."

@USAOWTC #WTCPull The introduction to paradise lost was great. Most of us has probably gone to church and learned about Adam and Eve and the fallen angels. However, once reading the introduction, and learning how Milton talked about it, makes me want to read paradise lost.

Honestly the only thing I could think about while reading this was how my 5th grade English teacher made us analyze the song fireflies by Owl City line by line for a week. Ive never hated a song more in my life. @USAOWTC #WTCPull

Pullman analyzed the importance of reading a poetry aloud and how it’s beginning and ending can captivate an audience. He also mentioned how today’s educational system isn’t the best for learning poetry. #WTCPull

@USAOWTC Interesting to think about all the different worlds each reader creates when they read a story and also makes me question my English teachers in high school as to why I don’t love poetry this much #WTCPull

@USAOWTC #WTCPull I think most people who say they dislike poetry are, like Pullman says, focusing too much on the meanings without taking time to appreciate a poem’s sounds. You don’t have to understand every word of Milton to grasp the heart of what he means.

(2/2)I feel like that pulls the pleasure out of reading, trying to read between all the lines. I also enjoy the thought that if people accept the enchantment and enjoy it they’d understand more about the poem. @USAOWTC #WTCPull
