Work presses on near Llangennech. All intact wagons have now been removed from the accident site. Focus continues on recovering lost diesel at the accident site and surveying the wider estuary.

Contractors are continuing to remove diesel contained by the pipe dams and bubble barrier, with 16,400 litres of product recovered within the past 24 hours.

Our marine monitoring team has been busy over the weekend in response to the diesel spill near Llangennech.
They’ve been surveying to identify areas that have been oiled and taking samples of sediment to look at the impact on the wildlife of the Loughor Estuary.

@PHE_uk evaluated social media and internet systems for early alerting of flooding and pollution events. An Algorithm was developed and impact of social media was assessed in case of incident including use of health messages. “Diolch” for such a great job. #severnestuary

Let's learn something from past incidents!!!! @CedreBrest has conducted a desktop study on past incidents in transitional waters identifying their specific characteristics. Analysis is based on a review of Cedre database and other literature produced by international agencies.

Based on satellite imagery @EOMAP designed operational processing chains that provided us timely and accurate information on water coverage and turbidity. Users can visualize this information within the HazRunoff Platform. #watercoverage #turbidity #sateliteimagery
