@juliesacunt No! If they did I would make a deal with them to take her place, there was selfishness with her flexing her power/wanting her friend back (though is that selfish?) but tbf I reckon most people with that much power would probably try it, and I do think she was genuinely worried

It’s not “realistic” but I don’t think it’s meant to be, and the performance being kinda camp just makes the moments where the facade drops and we see Willow’s raw grief hit even harder

I’ve seen people criticise Alyson’s Dark Willow performance as “too camp” but to me that’s the point? Willow’s always struggled with identity and this is just her latest expression of that, with Willow playing a villain as best as she can to try avoid confronting her grief

@weslieism Gunn is so impressive as a character to me because even though the show often struggles to give him great storylines imo he’s still one of my absolute favourite characters, I think a huge part of that is not just him having a great character setup but also J. August Richards

@dwhcrt It’s been so long I can’t remember exactly when I noticed but it probably was around the same time you did, like I said it’s a really weird way to properly introduce that aspect of his character it’s like an arc in reverse lol I have no idea why they didn’t build it up more

@dwhcrt Don’t worry I think it was intentional to make it seem like he was “just being a dick” (not defending Wes just it wasn’t as extreme) until things do start to get really extreme

@dwhcrt I think the slow reveal of Wes’ infection is really well done horror, and I agree his overall extreme reaction to the infection is kinda (but still not entirely) surprising given where you are in the show but there’s stuff in Wes’ character later that makes it less surprising imo

@weslieism Yeah true, I think the problem I more have is the show favouring Wes over Gunn in that storyline to the point of almost diminishing Gunn’s character by just making him “the muscle” when he was so much more! He was even arguably the smartest of the group in the early seasons

When I started Six Feet Under I found Claire’s introduction scene kinda a cliched “teen drug addict” scene, not minimising that just not what I expected, but looking back I kinda think Claire being high out of her mind during maybe the defining moment of her life is kinda perfect

@weslieism Imo she had the right to kill him but the show sides way too much with Wes without showing why Gunn didn’t, not infantilising her but that he couldn’t see someone he loved murder, which is something I wish the show actually explored instead of just Wes was right and Gunn wrong

@weslieism The thing is Spike canonically fell in love with Buffy when she was 17, it’s completely fair for people to criticise that part of vampire romances but at least be consistent!
