promise to help enable Cambodians impacted by UXO to return home and restart
their livelihoods. Today, the United States provided a $4 million grant to the
Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC) through our implementer Norwegian
People’s Aid (NPA) to expand life-saving demining and UXO work across
Cambodia.
This grant will:
· Expand operations from eastern Cambodia to border areas like Oddar
Meanchey, making land safe for families, farmers, and communities.
· Grow U.S.-funded CMAC teams from 20 to 33 – including 10 new
demining teams and thee rapid-response EOD teams.
· Build on over 30 years and $223 million in U.S. support, which has already
cleared more than 50 million square meters of land and educated over
40,000 Cambodians about explosive hazards.

Border Tensions Escalate as Thai Forces Fire on Cambodian Troops in An Ses
PHNOM PENH— National Defense Spokeswoman Lieutenant General Maly Socheata said the Thai military opened fire with firearms and mortar shells against Cambodian forces in the An Ses area on the morning of September 27, 2025, at around 11:52 a.m.
“The Cambodian army has exercised maximum restraint and has not retaliated,” Socheata said.
"As of now, the Cambodian armed forces continue to monitor the situation with utmost caution and are fully prepared to defend the country’s territorial integrity."
Socheata reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to the ceasefire agreement, urging the Thai side to do the same in order to prevent open conflict and restore normal diplomatic relations.
