"Presence" as defined in @MerriamWebster has clear temporal and physical connotations. Yet, presence is still possible in online, async classrooms. Check out some of my thoughts on online presence here:

@Jenae_Cohn I try to avoid terms like "support," "help," or other words that position IDs as subordinate to faculty. Instead, I use words like guide, empower, or partner with faculty to design and build online/hybrid courses or learning experiences.
#HybridWork can be very inflexible, which is why I'm encouraged that my university just shared a flexible work policy. It's not perfect, but it does make clear that hybrid work is only one aspect of flexibility. https://t.co/1SNQ9rZMoC
Our special issue titled "Pedagogy of care: Critical humanizing approaches to teaching and learning with technology" is finally out! Grateful to co-editor & friend Rohit, @StefaniaManca and her team, and the amazing scholars who contributed to this: https://t.co/GHlmT6th3C Pls RT
@BWGleason@StefaniaManca I really enjoyed Mehta and Aguilera's article, "A critical approach to humanizing pedagogies in online teaching and learning" (2020). Looking forward to checking out some of these articles too!
@Greg_Ketcham Agreed, but I think that quote goes beyond ID-faculty relationships to speak to how colleges position and treat their IDs. Colleges that want to keep talented IDs around need to offer more attractive work arrangements and benefits.
@blairstamper A4: I was a teacher and tutor at a private school after college which taught me a lot about privilege and motivated me to want to work at open access and public institutions. #ID2IDchat
I do more than advocate for flexible and remote work. I research gender inclusivity, especially in technocentric environments.
Check out this whitepaper I co-authored on Impacting the Inclusivity Mindset of Online Computer Science Students - https://t.co/znyqXnQ9Jn
Ok, #HigherEd, which roles or job classifications automatically get #RemoteWork at your institution? Let me guess. They're tech-related. They're heavily male-dominated. Am I right? Prove me wrong. I'm looking for data.
@jess_geor Ahhh! I was so looking forward to this session, but missed it due to a timezone mishap. Thank you so much for sharing these resources and slides!
@TheQMIDA A5: I'm excited to see more remote opportunities for instructional designers. Why? Because it shows that distance learning centers are living their values.
I'm so excited to be a TA for an online graduate-level #InstructionalDesign class this spring. Looking for tips to make the most of this experience for myself, the students, and the instructor. Would love any advice or suggestions. #PhDchat
