A major adverse effect of statins is myopathy (known since 1980). Now genetics have shed light on this association. Two independent teams have recently discovered that recessive mutations in HMGCR cause a severe form of muscular disease in humans.
A 🧵 for genetics lovers.
Great memories from my last project in Shamoo Lab @RiceUniversity! Anyone interested in how intracellular pathogens evolve to antimicrobial resistance within macrophages, please take a peak. It was a lot harder than we thought it would be

Fun story related to @surt_lab's Q:
The lids to our cuvettes do not fit into our e-porator.
When we transform ∆Pf4 strains, they become re-infected with Pf4 virions from previous transformations that arced and exploded in the e-porator.
Dear #academictwitter
What are good online resources to teach myself #rnaseq data analysis? Just the basic step by step to get to differential gene expression.
Any recommendations, RTs appreciated! 🙏🏼

@SeeingProgress That makes it worse because it would mean that two people were involved in writing this unecessarily harsh review. One can reject a manuscript and not be mean about it. A review should offer constructive criticism, not be demoralizing for the authors.
@Parikshana1@PhDVoice@PostdocPal You should start applying without any concerns. The fact that you have multiple papers under review is a good thing. You can add them to your resume with "under review" in parenthesis and provide bioRxiv links (if available).
@DeePraz10 @PhDVoice@PhD_Genie 1. Establish a routine and try your best to maintain it. 2. Do not bring work home. 3. Exercise and eat healthy. 4. Pick a hobby that allows you to unwind. For example, painting, knitting, baking, making puzzles, etc.
@EstefanaEspin I relate with you 100%. The imposter syndrome doesn't go away entirely. It's about balancing self doubt with self confidence. Self doubt keeps you motivated to learn and grow. Self confidence gives you the courage to keep going. Don't worry, you will find your way. All the best!
Also, to the men who have joined the MarriageStrike movement, I say, good riddance. Women looking to find partners will not have to deal with you'll. 2/2

MarriageStrike is such a publicity stunt. After years of living in an oppressively patriarchal society, women deserve the basic human right of seeking justice if they are physically abused, inside or outside of marriage. 1/2
@TanushJagdish I prepare electrocomp cells and electroporate Pseudomonas and Francisella at room temp and it always works. Reference paper for Pseudomonas: https://t.co/PEcHVTO3KJ
