@SynonymUnion@FinMorrison This is overreaction easily. We are definitely getting out the pool this time.
Funny descriptor for a guy who won a 5N with Scotland as a player and the first of two lone trophies as a club coachโฆ. Not sure bottle merchant fits in context of an underdog nation.
@TomOHanlon17@ChrisSru880101@mangorugby True 2024, still fact remains it wasnโt a full loaded Scotland side, in their back garden, convincingly winning.
No longer a surprise package unless theyโve further evolved or gotten better.
Nobody is worrying about the bottom two. Itโs the top scalp thatโs the Everest here.
@ChrisSru880101 Yeah I think it could have. Weโve beaten two of the drawn teams convincingly within the year
As a top tier opponent, we do have the worst draw there but beating Ireland is not impossible, and if we donโt, weโve met expectation. RD16 with France, a side we have better luck facing
@TomOHanlon17@ChrisSru880101@mangorugby We beat Uruguay at their stadium with a rotated team minus many regulars this summer.
They do not have the surprise element they had last WC. Thatโs tier 2/3 speciality, nobody has expectation of them. They now do and Scotland have faced them recently to boot.
@deano_j85 Issue is the union doesnโt get invited to face multiple great teams because we have the smallest audience, meaning we arenโt worth the same ยฃยฃยฃ to come play us all that often.
Give a good game to anyone most of the time.
As for pointless, well itโs put Toonie under pressure.
@crossgatescynic@RugbySco Canโt see him going or the SRU booting him early unless the wheels fall totally off the bus. Cotter had the improvements to rely on, and the WC knockout that couldโve been more. Toonie doesnโt really have as many statements, just a consistent track record.
@crossgatescynic@RugbySco He always had doubters but a big component of the reservations was the lack of statement wins I think. England had us riding high and Australia, then France more than we expected, then Wales eventually became a reality but shouldnโt have been so tight.
@existdaybyday @Scrum365 Wins are wins stop underselling the achievement.
They lost to Leinster, as everyone did bar Northampton last season. Hardly the indictment you make it out to be.
Best option to date. Also making European knockouts every year now too, a first for a coach on two fronts.
@existdaybyday @Scrum365 They didnโt blow a home semi. They lost to the eventual winners with a red card misstep from Jordan in his first season.
Scotland never have expectations what are you on? Whenโs the last time they won anything to have expectation? Glasgow have gone the distance at least.
@sheenyp1970@jaredwright17 Well considering we had the regular beating of England, Italy and Argentina quite confidently until this season, that would be a bare minimum.
Itโs a downturn compared to their upturn. Heโs been in charge longer than any of their coaches he should have the measures of them.
@jaredwright17 Gotta agree on the cold hard light of results. Heโs plateaued the last 2/3 seasons, but England, Italy and Argentina havenโt and this year we see the result of their hard work 3/3 vs Scotland for the first time in a loooong time.
Union far too risk averse with the big job.
@existdaybyday @Scrum365 Mentally he took them to Thomond Park and Loftus Versfeld back to back and won.
No other coach of a Scottish side had claim to a tougher series of away fixtures, at the pinnacle of the season, with wins to back that up. True grit.
@andy_thomas1989 Franco Smith. Proven to get results under crunch time with the Glasgow players, Edinburgh plenty are capable of the same, combined heโd form a tough unit to beat, plays entertaining rugby, his selection and bench use decisions and rotation make sense, and heโs been chased loads.
@ChrisSru880101 Overselling much. It was against the USA. If he keeps going then Iโd get it, but to reiterate. Who are you leaving out of Darge, Ritchie, Dempsey, Fagerson, Bradbury, Onyeama Christie, Bayliss and Brown to include McConnellโฆ. He has no claim over any of them at this point.
