We trained together pre-race around the venue, (and in the many months and weeks beforehand), we travelled together, we raced on the same courses.

This 100%. Kona is a spectacle event. Its legacy and myth has been built around the spectacle of the best in the world qualifying and competing head-to-head, both pro and amateur. Quantity dilutes this legacy. The sacredness and appeal of Kona is in sad decline.
