📢 Happening Today: High Court Hearing on Petition on Abortion Rights in Kenya (Petition E008 of 2020)

The High Court is hearing submissions in High Court Petition E008 of 2020: Ann Kioko & Others v. KMPDB & Others. The petition challenges the alleged lifting of the ban on post-abortion care and seeks legal recognition of foetal personhood as well as the total closure of all Marie Stopes Kenya facilities.

The Center for Reproductive Rights is participating as amicus curiae, offering legal expertise on abortion as a constitutional right and opposing efforts to limit access to essential reproductive health services.

✅ The Political Declaration with deep content adopted by consensus, advance the Beijing Platform for Action and ethos of the Charter!
✅ Great consultations on the Revitalisation of CSW, with leadership of ECOSOC President, Amb @BobRae48 & facilitation of @IrishMissionUN and @BWGovernment.
✅ Round tables, side events, advocacy session
✅ Massive and clear voice and engagement of young people, the GIRLS
✅ The extraordinary civil society convening! Online engagement for many.
✅ Am inspired by the UN family coming together is such a strong coherent way, the Secretary General himself @antonioguterres leading the Clarion call for gender equality.
✅ Dr Sima Bahous @unwomenchief was on her feet with a smile, leading with end in my mind: #ForAllWomenAndGirls #Equality #Rights #Empowerment

I treasure every meeting, every encounter, every smile and tear, and those who assisted and supported my brothers and sisters with disability.

This was my first full CSW to offer leadership in my role as Deputy Executive Director at UN Women. I celebrate the amazing staff of this great 15 year old @UN_Women
