আনন্দবাজার গতকাল থেকে একটা প্রতিবেদন চালাচ্ছে, মালদা-মুর্শিদাবাদ জেলায় নাবালিকাদের বিয়ে দেওয়া হচ্ছে, তারা গর্ভবতী হচ্ছে এবং অসুস্থ সন্তান প্রসব করছে, নিজেরাও অসুস্থ হয়ে পড়ছে।

খাঁটি সত্য, কিন্তু অর্ধসত্য। বিশেষ করে এই দুটো জেলায় কেন? এর কারণ, এই দুটো জেলা মুসলমানপ্রধান। এবং এদের মেয়েদের শুধু নাবালিকা অবস্থায় বিয়ে দেওয়া হয় না, নিকট-আত্মীয়দের মধ্যেও বিয়ে দেওয়া হয়, যার ফলে শিশুদের জন্মগত অসুখ বা বিকৃতি এদের মধ্যে খুব বেশী।

এর মধ্যে লক্ষ্য করার বিষয়, একবারও ‘মুসলমান’ কথাটা বলা হয় নি, কিন্তু বারবার ইমামদের নাম উল্লেখ করায় বোঝা যাচ্ছে, কোন সম্প্রদায়ের মেয়েরা ও শিশুরা এই বীভৎসতার শিকার। এতেও আশ্চর্যের কিছু নেই, কারণ স্বয়ং মোহনদাস গান্ধী শিখিয়ে গেছে, মুসলমানের কোন দোষ ধরা চলবে না। বর্তমানে সেই পরম্পরা চালিয়ে যাচ্ছে বামপু (বামপন্থীরা) এবং মোহনদাসের পার্টি কংগ্রেস ও তার থেকে উদ্ভূত তৃণমূল-গোছের যত পার্টি।

উদ্দেশ্য খুবই স্পষ্ট, মুসলমান ভোট পেতেই হবে। কিন্তু এর ফলে কি দুই সম্প্রদায়েরই ক্ষতি হচ্ছে না? এবং যদি তাই হয় তাহলে ‘ধর্মনিরপেক্ষতা'র নামে এই নোংরা ভণ্ডামি কবে বন্ধ হবে ?

The Bloody Afternoon of Naihati: A 17-Year-Old Life Lost Over a Few Mangoes

It was just a few mangoes that the friends were picking up. In a playful mood, they entered a mango orchard in Kanchrapara. On their way back from a family event that afternoon, 17-year-old Sudipta Pandit and his friends stepped into the orchard—perhaps unaware that a few fallen mangoes would change the course of their lives so tragically.

Sheikh Farhad Mandal was on guard duty in that orchard. He caught hold of Sudipta. What followed was a brutal assault—inhuman and savage. While the others fled, Farhad took his rage out on Sudipta alone. The beating was so severe that when Sudipta was taken to Naihati SG Hospital in a bloodied, battered state, doctors declared him dead. A vibrant young boy of 17—gone forever.

This raises a painful question—what crime did Sudipta truly commit? Picking up a few mangoes? Fallen on the ground? Was that such a heinous offense? Only Farhad knows how many mangoes he valued more than the life of a teenage boy.

An even more bitter truth emerges: what if the names were reversed? What if the killer was named “Sudipta” and the victim “Farhad”? Wouldn’t the so-called leftist and human rights circles have erupted in protest by now? Why are they silent today? Why this deafening silence when Sudipta is killed by Farhad?

This is not just the death of a teenager—it is the death of humanity. A chilling question looms—are we still human? Where does such cruelty stem from? How could a mere guard inflict such barbarity on a 17-year-old boy?

Where are we headed? Where has our compassion gone? These questions demand answers. And they must be answered now—because tomorrow, another Sudipta might not return.
