Today, I reported to Congress that Hong Kong is no longer autonomous from China, given facts on the ground. The United States stands with the people of Hong Kong.
The United States must stand strongly with the people of Hong Kong and make sure there are consequences for Chinese leadership’s attempts to trample civil liberties. We must continue to lead the free world. Democracy and free expression must triumph over oppression.
This cannot be a battle the Chinese Communist Party wins. The world must stand in solidarity with Hong Kong, human rights, and democracy.

Police have begun raiding the edges of Hong Kong campuses to make arrests, leading student activists to engage with them in pitched battles that resemble medieval sieges

@StandNewsHK 08.53 More teargas shot at PolyU. There are no protesters on the street, so this is clearly aimed at those up on the parapets (ie, an attack on the uni). Are police softening the frontlines up in preparation for a campus invasion? Video here: https://t.co/ZKL76HpUoO
Thank you @marcorubio for accepting our invitation to record a video to support Hongkongers.
Also, @CECCgov issued a statement to decry #HKPoliceTerrorists to fire tear gas in universities creating more conflicts.
We hope the #HKHumanRightsandDemocracyAct will be passed soon!
