I like to err on the side of “never attribute to malice what can more easily explained by stupidity” but omg the speed of this descent feels v malice-y #RIPTwitter
In the city that never sleeps, NYC's curb lane is static, do-nothing space. 11,000+ miles of curbspace not contributing much to the life & work of the city -- but we can fix that.
Please! Let's take the energy directed toward Elon and redirect it toward those we elected to govern. Link arms and insist on a democratic digital future where we are protected from unaccountable power wielded by billionaires, despots, corporations, or governments. [6/6]
Think about this: NY bail reform is the most successful criminal legal public policy in history. Hundreds of thousands free. Hundreds of millions in cost savings. Public health & safety w/ no crime causation. That's years worth of data. Multiple nonpartisan reports. GOP is lying:
Of all cases that started off as “felonies” in NYC in 2021 that resulted in any kind of conviction, 89% resulted in *at most* jail time for under 1 year.
Just 3% of all felony charges in NYC in 2021 resulted in prison time for more than a year.
Think about what this data tells us. If NY GOP, police, & prosecutors had their way & judges could detain any felony arrest, here’s what we know: 86% of the time, they’d be pretrial caging someone whose felony will ultimately be dismissed.
93% of the time in NYC.
@hunt4change the overlap between fetal personhood and the right to sex: a woman's body is just a repository for others' needs. oh, you have objections? so you're ok with others' suffering?
Not all streets are created equal.
Today we're launching Spatial Equity NYC with @MITLCAU to reveal how inequities in public space contribute to racial and economic disparities across New York City neighborhoods.
See the data. Take action.

@ScottHech thank you! I think we need to be asking ourselves who this kind of crime panic serves. It's certainly not the public. Also, for a deeper dive in to the stats: https://t.co/7UNddX2gzd
Look: This is NYPD data. Any one person getting hurt is one too many. Which is why we have to follow facts. Don’t let police scare you into believing we’re in an unprecedented crisis caused by modest reforms that simply aim to lessen the racist grip of mass incarceration.
This obit really doesn't go far enough in expressing how important his work is, especially as the we all begin to wake up to the reality that our future will be very different from our past. RIP Bruno Latour https://t.co/501RRrHFGS
