Translation: our gross margins are getting competed down to 0 by open source models and our capex burn rate is too high.
Letโs maintain our margins with regulatory capture, ban open source models, and slow down the capex arms race. All with a virtue signaling cherry on top.
@PessimistsArc Right. Dario was already claiming that GPT2 was too dangerous to open source back in 2019.
I made fun of them then.
Everyone should make fun of them now.
BREAKING: OpenAI recursive self-improvement researcher warns there is a 70% chance of โhuman extinctionโ in 3 years unless there is a coordinated slowdown between labs.
I agree with Dario that we need to pace the frontier. This has been a primary topic of discussions we've had at OpenAI in recent weeks.
Committing to having independent evaluators with employee-like access is a great idea, and we will do the same. We'll have more to share soon.
The best game for the duopoly is to 1) stop the immediate competition while 2) nurturing an ever growing user base.
What if the payoff is higher to stop competiton at the expense of slowing the growth.
Actually what if the duopoly asks for KYC/KYB to use AI.. what if they make it hard to enter the market not just as a competitor but even as a user. what if..
@paulg Afaict they ultimately want to make it harder for competition to enter the market because AI is more dangerous than your pressure cooker. So it might end up being less feasible to start a new model company if they succeed
ok. assume in good faith that AI really is coming to eat humanity. what exactly is the plan to control its progress? ban its development? get the major powers to treat frontier AI like nuclear weapons?
if your answer is "hand over keys to the AI duopoly and trust the system", fuck right off

my case addiction started with avoiding metal keys. then came these advanced cases with holders, stands, extra grip.. now I'm too deep in the case ecosystem that I need legit rehabilitation to go caseless
26 LLM routers are secretly injecting malicious tool calls and stealing creds. One drained our client $500k wallet.
We also managed to poison routers to forward traffic to us. Within several hours, we can directly take over ~400 hosts.

Today we're also opening the weights for Muse Glimmer, a great 30B parameter dense model that can run locally. Soon we'll also release the weights for Muse Spark 1.2, our latest foundation model. Meta is a strong supporter of open source and I'm proud of these releases. Congrats to @alexandr_wang and the MSL team for all your great work on these models.
We created a pitch deck to tell a handful of VC firms about us and what we were up to (a fun experience!). Hereโs a few slides about our background and some of the things weโve worked on from the pitch deck (it was fun putting together the list of people in our teams who have gone on to found a whole range of exciting companies). We are delighted to have selected @radicalvcfund
and @khoslaventures to lead our initial funding round, along with participation from @lightspeedvp, @kleinerperkins, Doerr Capital (@johndoerr), and Alphabet (@Google). Weโll be working with them to close our seed round over the next few weeks.
