I’ve been thinking a lot about the extraordinary outbursts of the President of the United States against female journalists... well, actually against journalists in general and journalism. But it feels like he saves his most childlike behavior and irrational language for female reporters, calling them all kinds of names that kids in kindergarten are given times out for. It’s stunning to me to witness such behavior from any leader, any CEO, any person of influence or importance. I’ve never witnessed someone like this raging, this weekend with @meetthepress host @kwelkernbc, just last week in the Oval Office with @cnn’s @kaitlancollins, calling women stupid or piggy, telling them to “smile”, calling them darling, demeaning their credibility. Every good man should denounce this behavior. Every person should be able to stand up for their colleagues and say “No more.”

Imagine this man screaming like this at your daughter, your wife, your sister, your mother... would you stand for it? No, you wouldn’t! And neither should any of us. It’s unacceptable and undignified. Period. End of story.

COVlD-19 levels are "Very High" or "High" in the majority of states, per the CDC.

This includes 27 states & D.C.

Alaska, Hawai'i, California, Nevada, Idaho, Utah, S. Dakota, Nebraska, Texas, Louisiana, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida, S. Carolina, N. Carolina, D.C., Maryland, and Connecticut.

🔥High:
Washington state, Oregon, Montana, probably N. Dakota (imputed), Arkansas, Alabama, Virginia, Delaware, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts.

PMC estimates 1 in 38 people (2.7%) are actively infectious. Wastewater-derived case estimates suggest 1.3 million new daily infections.

California COVlD Update

Based on CDC wastewater surveillance data, the Pandemic Mitigation Collaborative estimates 1 in 30 people in California are actively infectious with COVlD.

You'll notice most of the areas are in dark red ("Very High"), meaning it is estimated at least 1 in 25 people there are actively infectious.

To those seeing these stats for the first time, 1 in 25 or 1 in 30 may sound small. It's not. In a room of 10 randomly selected Californians, there would be a 28% chance someone is infectious. In a room of 25 people, a 57% chance. In a room of 50 people, 81% chance. In a room of 100 people, 96% chance. The "room" example is just an illustration. The 100 people could simple be 100 people one interacts with during a short time span, like a college student going to 4 classes of 25 people each.

These maps are actually much more concerning than most people realize. The CDC recently reclassified what levels of transmission count toward Very High, High, Low, etc. In all cases, based on our analyses, it appears to have set a higher bar, essentially downplaying transmission with current colors. For example, under the old system, 1 in 40 (by PMC estimates) would constitute "Very High" but now a state needs to get into the even worse situation of 1 in 25 (higher concentration) to be Very High. Basically, under the old system, California would be classified as "Very High" instead of "High." In sum, take Very High, High, and Moderate very seriously.

This estimate is based on data linkages between wastewater transmission levels and historical estimates of transmission from the IHME. It does not rely on self-selected testing.

This is the first graphic released as a part of the PMC 3.0 update that accounts for ongoing methodologic changes at the CDC and some improved forecasting features. It's mostly a data update. You'll just notice more consistent reports going forward starting on the website Tuesday.
