Based on Euro forecast, I would anticipate July 2026’s average maximum of 29-29.5C in London, as warm as what’s typical in Barcelona.

The current record monthly max is 28.3C set in July 2018 this might be broken by more than 1C.

This summer the background warming is written all over it and steady reductions in aerosols/pollution and cleaning of European air is removing filter for incoming solar radiation.

Dirty air had been masking warming, particularly I think this was evident in mid 20th C when it cooled briefly. The teleconnections did not support such a notably hot & dry summer for the UK, we never had a hot & dry El Niño summer till now. Unprecedented summer in many ways.

Unclear whether it will constitute as technical heatwave but increasing confidence the first half of next week is likely to see return of hot weather.

Peaking on next Wednesday. I can see peaks exceeding 32C (90F) further SE.

I believe this will be enough to result in July 2026 becoming the hottest month of all-time in London that currently belongs to July 2006. It could also be the driest and sunniest July on record. Truly exceptional.
