The Expressway viaduct is literally a stormwater gutter. How much water does it dump at the Museum Hill exit?

Most of that water finds its way (appropriate use of that word because it is not properly channeled out of the exit) into Nairobi River that rapidly fills up as it heads down the national museums into Kirinyaga road wrecking havoc.

Parents ought to understand that today’s 33-year-old sons and daughters are living the same stage of life their parents occupied at 22 but in a far harsher world. We now experience a year’s worth of change in just three months. That speed may work for technology and culture, but it is brutal when it comes to opportunities.

A man could marry at 22 and provide for his family. A primary school teacher could build a permanent house, take children to boarding school, and even own a tractor. Today, many of those same professionals are struggling to pay rent.

Your grown child is probably not lazy. You haven’t asked how many jobs they’ve applied for and been rejected from. You haven’t listened to the small businesses they started quietly and shut down before anyone noticed. You haven’t seen the courage it takes to keep trying in an unforgiving environment.

Young people carry so much potential within them, but the world outside them has become hostile. Many fear marriage not because they lack love or responsibility but because they feel they have nothing to pass on to the next generation except struggle and misery

If you are a parent and you still have strength, sit down with your son or daughter in their 30s. Ask them what’s burning in their soul. Ask them who they could become if fear of failure wasn’t holding them back. Then, if you can, give them one more shot.

You never know.
You truly never know.
