Thank you. You said it well. So much of this comes back to how young men process disrespect, pressure, pride, and conflict in the moment. A situation that should have ended with someone walking away became something two families can never undo. That is why we have to teach boys de-escalation, emotional control, and accountability before they ever reach a courtroom.

The jury now has three choices: not guilty, guilty of first-degree murder, or guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter.

12 Jurors selected. 6 Alternates.

None are Black.

The defense objected after the prosecution removed the last three Black prospective jurors.

The judge allowed the jury to be seated anyway.

I’m not taking sides on guilt or innocence.

Just left the jury selection viewing room today.
During voir dire, one potential juror said, “I feel race will play a role in my judgment.”
Another potential juror said their moral and religious beliefs would keep them from being able to sentence someone.
I heard both moments live in open court.
Today reminded me that jury selection is not just about finding people to sit in the box. It is about finding out who can truly follow the law, weigh the evidence, and be fair.
In a case already carrying major public attention, moments like this show why voir dire matters.
