1/3 🔬 A stable brain interface must do more than record. It must also remain visible and correctly localized.
In two rhesus macaques, researchers combined a transparent cranial window with a 64-channel µECoG array over visual cortex.
1️⃣ A bonded silicone ring reduced tissue invasion
2️⃣ 30–80 Hz gamma responses and visual decoding remained measurable (p < 0.001)
3️⃣ Electrode displacement was 0.20 mm in one subject during the first two weeks
Long-term optical clarity remains challenging because of tissue regrowth and hemorrhage. @htanig_en@ZJU_China

We demonstrated a common clustered architecture for long-range connections in the macaque VLPFC. These columnar-like structures (~1.2 mm) are shared by both ipsilateral and callosal inputs, providing a structural basis for information processing.

We investigated how horizontal connections in macaque IT cortex relate to object recognition. Unlike V1, where similar features connect to similar features, we found diverse connectivity patterns, suggesting a more flexible network for object recognition.

Researchers @UCSF, led by neurosurgeon Edward Chang, MD, have used #Neuropixels probes to record activity from hundreds of individual neurons while participants listened to speech. Out today in @Nature, this study gives us a view into how the brain analyzes the sounds in words.

"... BOLD measured in fMRI [...] during resting state might not much reflect the neuronal activity but basal metabolic changes through glia & astrocytes or intrinsic connectivity through slow synchronized neuronal oscillations across distant brain areas."

This comes with great regret, and a huge amount of thought and discussion- please read announcement to get more details.
Peer reviewing of manuscripts - is it THAT important as everyone thinks?
I thought of writing this post later, but Nature has catalyzed me to do it now.
