@womenwhowheel We have the lowest pensions of the major nations in Europe. By a few hundred pounds. we should be ashamed of that. The living wage here is about £24k, a state pension is roughly £11k if youre lucky. How can you call that enough to live on. A lot have to.
@womenwhowheel That will effect women a lot more then men, but yes let’s punish women for being mother’s, only working part time minimum waged jobs. Not everyone has an army to help.
@womenwhowheel I got meningitis in my late 20s which lead to a brain injury. I was bedridden for a decade & nearly died twice.
Luckily I recovered, but what if I hadn't? You think I should live in poverty on £75 a week because I had a brain injury?
I hope you're never that unlucky.
I am genuinely worried that when I reach retirement age the state pension - which I have contributed to all my working life -won’t be there for me at all. And I am worried for everyone else in the same situation. Because axing the Triple Lock is just the foot in the door they want. In a few years time it’ll be ‘We have to means test the State Pension’ . The goal will be to get rid of it altogether on the grounds that it’s ’unaffordable’ and ‘national security’ must come first. That’s the direction of travel. Unless we all stand up and fight for our rights.
@toadmeister "Andy Burnham has announced that he will axe the triple lock in 2030" ... a year after he and his party are tossed out ?
He clearly thinks its a vote winner but he's badly misguided
The Express politics team has reported how Andy Burnham will signal plans to axe pension triple lock to pay for social care in his speech today. The Save Our Pension Triple Lock campaign goes on.

As an 86 yr old Pensioner, who was employed all my working life, I notice Burnham wants to remove the triple lock. He has lost my vote and I wonder how many other Pensioners feel the same.
@campbellclaret All good except for the Triple Lock axe.
Hard enough being a pensioner especially as the UK has one of the worst pensions in Europe and beyond
The current state pension age is 66, and will increase to 67.
The average life expectancy in Glasgow is 74.
Are we seriously being asked to believe that a state pension isn't affordable for someone who pays National Insurance for 35+ years and only gets the state pension for 7 or 8 years?
It was an honour and a privilege to be welcomed to Crossroads Women's Centre in Kentish Town and meet with women who have been fighting for change for so many years.
The work women do is too often ignored and devalued - I gave my promise that as MP here I'll stand with them.
My partner retired today. Over 50 years with the same small business and guess what they did? Nothing...no cake, no gifts, nothing. 50 years of being the most reliable, fixing things he didn't have to, staying late to finish jobs so others could leave on time. I'm so pissed off.
