People often ask how long a wind turbine takes to "pay back" its construction CO₂. Surprisingly, including mining, steel, concrete, copper, manufacturing, transport, installation, maintenance & decommissioning, a modern turbine repays its entire carbon debt in 5-12 months.
After that, it can spend another 20-30 years generating electricity while avoiding far more emissions than were created to build it.
Every technology has an upfront footprint. The question isn't whether emissions exist. The question is how quickly they are repaid.
For wind, the carbon mortgage is usually measured in months. The carbon savings are measured in decades.
That's what disruption looks like when physics and economics start pulling in the same direction.
“Michael England, a spokesman for the National Science Foundation, said the decision to dismantle the network, known as the Ocean Observatories Initiative, 'aligns with N.S.F.’s wider strategy to have a nimbler approach to prioritizing support for evolving scientific priorities and emerging technologies.’"

A fun weekend of Pride! On Friday we gathered and raised the Pride flag - it was wonderful to have Council President @LizBreadon, @Ruthzee, and Rep MacGregor join us to uplift the LGBTQ+ community in West Roxbury for the 2nd year in a row.
"We underinvested for years in certain cities & towns, and now it's their time to receive the distributive justice that they've been looking for," she said. "If there's an increase in demand among the most vulnerable, why would you be cutting the budget?"

You’re not just paying for rising gas and electricity cost.
You’re paying for higher insurance premiums, more expensive groceries, and the cost of climate disasters like the cost of rebuilding after wildfires, floods, and storms.
Big Oil made this choice. Profit over people. It’s time to hold these polluters accountable.
Here’s what that could look like: https://t.co/d5mvloo4sk
Combined with the energy available from onshore wind and solar resources, an offshore wind fleet can support a shift toward local solutions for winter reliability in New England, bringing consumers much-needed relief from high seasonal electricity bills. https://t.co/ilA5BpYNeI
A record number of supertankers are preparing to ship American oil overseas—another way for Big Oil to profit from Trump's illegal and reckless war in Iran. Oil exports pollute our communities and reduce our energy security, while our prices continue to rise at the pump.
Great news from California! Rather than investing billions of dollars in the natural gas system in Massachusetts, we should be investing in energy independence in the form of wind/solar/batteries.
Moms are fighting methane expansion and pushing for fossil-free schools, and your support makes it possible. This month, a $75k match from the McNulty Foundation is doubling your impact, making your donation go further!

“Every new gas pipe is a 40-year mortgage on your bill.” Sen. Barrett tells WCVB how wasteful gas utility spending is directly driving up gas bills across Massachusetts. #mapoli

Finland's underground data centers heat entire city blocks using server waste heat
In Finland, several data-centres now feed their waste heat into municipal district-heating networks instead of simply dumping it into the air. For example, waste heat generated by data-centre cooling is captured and transferred into the district-heating grid, providing carbon-neutral heat to thousands of homes and public buildings. This reuse of thermal energy helps reduce reliance on fossil-fuel heating, cuts emissions, and turns the by-product heat from digital infrastructure into a genuine resource rather than waste.
At a time when solar and wind are the cheapest forms of new energy in the world, Trump wants to open a BILLION acres of US water to oil drilling.
Why? To line the pockets of his fossil fuel billionaire friends.
The rest of the world moves forward, we get left behind.
Action Alert: Please call or write your representatives and tell them to reject the costly new Mass House Energy bill that subsidizes natural gas and rolls back investments in clean (lower-cost) energy. https://t.co/1eLh82oJMP
