Jammu and Kashmir: OUR LIVES MATTER

It is deeply disheartening that in the Hon'ble Prime Minister's 22-minute address, there was not a single word about the innocent lives lost in Poonch, Rajouri, and Uri. Not a single mention of the grief-stricken families whose homes were reduced to rubble by relentless shelling, artillery, and mortar fire along the Line of Control.

Over 15 coffins were lowered into the ground including that of a 12-year-old child, yet there was no word of condolence, no acknowledgment, no empathy. Are the lives on the border invisible? Do the cries from Poonch, Rajouri, and Uri not reach the corridors of power?

The silence is deafening. It sends a chilling message, that some lives matter more than others. That the pain of the people in border areas is politically inconvenient. But let it be known; Poonch, Rajouri, and Uri bleed. And Poonch, Rajouri, and Uri remember. We will not allow these sacrifices to be erased or ignored. Every life matters. Every tear counts. And history will remember not only those who died, but also those who chose silence in the face of their suffering.

THIS IS A SHOCKER. REGIONALLY —LOSS DUE TO RESERVATIONS MUCH HIGHER THAN ANTICIPATED

I had posed some questions pertaining to reservations. And these questions were mostly focused on regional disparities across all categories.

I will summarise it here and will also be addressing a press conference.

Kashmir as region is far far behind. The net loss of quotas to Kashmiri speaking population is of a much higher scale than we had thought.

The whole reservation concept is rigged against the Kashmiri speaking population and against ST or EWS living in Kashmir.

Even the ST population living in Kashmir is a net loser. They make up a meagre 15% of the total applicants from the ST pool.

RBA is almost same but when you adjust for population, against it is less. Kashmir population is approximately 7% more. And areas under RBA are almost same proportionately. Yet in number terms they are behind Jammu

And lastly the Committe set up by government on 10/12/2024 to examine grievances has no specific timeline for submitting report. We were told it is 6 months timeline.

The issue of reservations is a reality. We have to acknowledge the big white elephant in the room.

The Kashmiri speaking population has been pushed into a corner. While affirmative action is welcome, it can’t be done completely at the cost of the Kashmiris. There has to be a trade off.

The Kashmiri speaking population has been especially at the receiving end for the last three decades.
They are the ones highest in terms of PSAs slapped, killed, injured, jailed, denied police verification and now comes the reservation.

And the present union government and also the past union governments have been at the forefront in disempowering and marginalising the Kashmiri community, in the name of national interest.

They see the Kashmiris as enemies. And want to make them socially and economically subservient to other communities, through a cruel system of reservations.

This is the sad reality
