@Jacob_Rees_Mogg charged by a neighbour with giving back a borrowed kettle in a damaged condition. The defendant asserted first, that he had given it back undamaged;secondly, that the kettle had a hole in it when he borrowed it; thirdly, that he had never borrowed a kettle from his neighbour at all.
@DannyShawNews@metpoliceuk State sanctioned death needs to be met with the utter seriousness it deserves. Every deployment & shot scrutinised.
The potential death of a member of our community, in guilt or innocence, can never be corrected. Justice cannot be done.
This protects citizen & officer.
@BarristerSecret There are some politicians who are not good enough to resist the popularity opinion poll to human sacrifice.
It’s irrevocability means justice can never be served.
We should deny the state the right of life and death on its own citizens.
@CBDavidge @HomelessVets24@El_Anglo_Pigeon@LeeAndersonMP_ Well, you can be ‘not proven’ in Scottish law. What Walter Scott called the bastard verdict. This verdict is given when the person is likely guilty but the Crown doesn’t have sufficient evidence. You can therefore be ‘very guilty’ or ‘quite guilty’ in Scotland.
@LeeAndersonMP_@JustStop_Oil Whenever I hear some gaseous MP heralding the need for more oil and more gas against the overwhelming science…I mentally note their name & contentedly set my watch for when a journalist of the future digs out the register of MP consultancy income outside of parliamentary work…
@RojH123 @RestIsPolitics@RoryStewartUK@campbellclaret We need to call out denialism or our disregard for future generations or in damaging the countries that have the poorest people, those vulnerable to flooding or wildfire or displacement.
Self interest is not permissible when flying so much.
@RestIsPolitics@RoryStewartUK@campbellclaret There are perverse inversions associated with climate change.
There’s a chronological one where the younger generation will pay for their elders emissions and a socioeconomic one where the poorest suffer what the rich deserve.
How do you personally morally self reflect on this?
@afneil We cannot afford to wait for all the uncertainties to unfold or white boxes to be filled in.
James Hansen in the 1980s said there was a signal.
Time will not make the problem go away.
@ponderousfella@Misstina1229@HillaryTaylorVI@JustStop_Oil The trouble with your ‘logic’ is you view it as a binary problem. It is not.
The opportunity it presents is large.
You see tax but the opposite to tax is jobs & industry.
You see the need for tech & infrastructure but not the industry & jobs needed for net or -ve 0.
@SuellaBraverman “Anti democratic wreckers”.
There is an unpleasant miasma around Tory MP’s these long days before a GE.
It’s like a terrible stew that burns into your nostrils. A stale underarm sweat.
Cheap but damaging bluster, tangential to what truly matters.
@RestIsPolitics@RoryStewartUK@campbellclaret@JudiRever I think it would be a good listen to hear Judi discuss Rwanda, the RPF, Paul Kagami coupled with a discussion on the UK & immigration to Rwanda…a critical assessment and discourse with Alastair & Rory
@BenObeseJecty@AnimalRising@TheJockeyClub Problematic logical reasoning here.
“These people” are UK citizens with a genuine concern for animal welfare.
It is an important discourse that we should be having instead of absurd inelegant statements.
@orlanichochlain@AnimalRising We do have a bias or prejudice against anything that is non human.
Speciesism is evident in comments and here, in horses, we choose to ignore that horses are frightened and in pain when they’re injured during a race. It’s not beyond to challenge yourself with these salient q’s.
@JustStop_Oil It would be amazing if the met police could do this to the water, gas & cable co’s.Signage & safety barriers left for days,no one working on the site…at least JSO has a valid argument, good people & not charging us a fortune to slow our roads down.
Yes to peaceful protest.Always.
@Haggis_UK@Jacob_Rees_Mogg well, attacks on the civil service come with a consequence. The culture you’re creating must be horrendous for Simon Case to manage. Ask Raab too. Every attempt to invoke some culture war seems to backfire on the govt (Sharp & BBC, DUP blocking & NI).
@peterbowden1981@jamiek19852013@AnimalRising@metpoliceuk All laws have proportionality. As a police officer you’re trusted to be appropriate, reasonable, proportional.
S.4(1) ‘unnecessary suffering’.
Tasering a dog (your words, a “f*cking dog”) was hoping to achieve what?
The officer decided this action & no other course of action.
@peterbowden1981@jamiek19852013@AnimalRising@metpoliceuk Come on…proportionality runs through the Police PACE Code G and it runs through all legislation. In the Animal Welfare Act you can read proportionality throughout. Section 4 is proportionality. Don’t mistake that there’s a law as an arbiter on something being cruel or not.
@peterbowden1981@jamiek19852013@AnimalRising@metpoliceuk That may be the case. But there’s a difference in treatment.
We could taser an animal.
And then shoot it dead.
Or, we could seek to control the dog, establish facts, seek professional advice as to dogs behaviour and if absolute needs must, under law, go to euthanasia.
