The timing of Trump's destruction of the WH facade to build his ballroom is twofold: It says he can do what he wants when he wants. AND, it says the WH belongs to him to do it with. Much like classified docs were his, sending $40B to Argentina is his, blowing up boats in the ocean is, and the entire US Treasury will be his.
The key delineation is grandiosity. It's a BIG part of his narcissistic pathology. His fixation on the Nobel Prize was about that. His constant refrain that "I'm allowed to do it" is about that. And - as he declines, and feels physically weak, and mentally erratic, and as he struggles with poll numbers, his quest to manufacture grandiosity - with impunity - and distract from the negative wherever and however he can, is paramount.
It's the fuel that keeps him going.
