#SriLanka 🇱🇰 is now the 54th Member State – and first in South Asia - to share environmental radiation monitoring data through IAEA’s International Radiation Monitoring Information System #IRMIS; reinforces timely international information exchange in support of the Convention on Early Notification of a Nuclear Accident.
“Timely access to environmental radiation monitoring data is essential for informed decision-making on public protection in case of nuclear or radiological emergency. Sri Lanka's participation in IRMIS further strengthens international arrangements for emergency preparedness and response, ” said Amgad Shokr, Director, IAEA Incident and Emergency Centre.
"This milestone reflects Sri Lanka's commitment to strengthening national radiation monitoring and emergency preparedness," highlighted K.K.P.I.K. Kadadunna, Director (Inspection & Enforcement) and National Emergency Coordinator, Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Regulatory Council.
With @IAEAorg support, Sri Lanka has established a nationwide network of fixed monitoring stations providing continuous environmental radiation data through the system.
