unpopular opinion: offering AI compute for free is bad for the industry, and players like Google should stop doing it.
It creates an unrealistic expectation that the models are actually cheap to run, and causes people to overuse compute on worthless tasks
Introducing The Godfather...
(LinkedIn Edition)
It sounds ridiculous but posting on LinkedIn changed my life.
When I first started, I was a bit lost.
My first startup had just failed and I didn't know what to do next.
In the past 18 months, it has unlocked more opportunities than anything I've done in my career.
I've hit ~400k followers, bootstrapped a SaaS biz to >$500k ARR and made a ton in brand partnerships.
It has been a FORCE multiplier for me and I want nothing more than to help others to get the same opportunities.
That's why I built Saywhat.
Here's how it works:
1/ Sign up and when you login you'll immediately see your first post (based on your target audience)
2/ Our AI writing assistant helps shape your ideas into posts that people actually read
3/ Get feedback from both our AI and our 600+ strong community (drop your posts in our Roast My Post channel)
4/ Join our monthly live sessions where I create posts live and share what's working right now
Plus you get access to our full library of post frameworks, carousel/infographic templates, and a community of people who get it.
(Because building a content-led business is brutal...)
The results so far are pretty good:
- Median user sees 130% more impressions in 90 days
- Average user gets an 800% increase
- Some users have gone from 0 to 100k+ followers
Despite what the haters say, it is still early on LinkedIn.
It's a 3-year-old social network living inside a 23-year-old company.
The opportunity is massive:
- 1 BN+ professionals in one place
- Less than 1% post consistently
- Even fewer do it well
If you've read this far, I have a thank you gift for you 👇
I created a LinkedIn starter pack that includes:
- 90 mins of video content
- How to define your brand positioning
- Content frameworks that actually work
- The exact system I used to grow to 395k+ followers and close $500k in ARR
Comment "Saywhat" and retweet and I'll send you a link to the free pack.
P.S. A massive thank you to Henry Hayes for being a phenomenal collaborator on this video. Your facial expressions made it 10x better! 🙌
P.P.S. if you're a company with >$10m ARR looking for more hands on help to win on LinkedIn, send me a DM
Significant progress in AI and Robotics this week.
So, I summarized everything from Google, Microsoft, Alibaba, Figure, Cohere, Unitree, Field AI, Boston Dynamics, Deepseek, and more.
Here's everything you need to know and how to make sense out of it:
A horrible @airindia crash today being the first 787 Dreamliner ever to have a fatal incident
Both the 787 and the 737 Max are part of the new "problem generation" of Boeing aircraft starting around the mid-2000s
Like the 737 Max, the Dreamliner had lots of manufacturing/safety issues but at least until today it never crashed
We have to wait for the investigation to make any conclusions why though
This crash puts the 787 Dreamliner near the bottom of airplane models in fatality odds though, positioning it next to the ATR 42/72, the plane that fell from the sky in Brazil last year
I personally solely fly Airbus planes:
- Airbus A318/A319/A320/A321 Classic or Neo
- Airbus A350
- Airbus A340
- Airbus A380
Or Boeing models but ONLY from before the mid-2000s:
- Boeing 737NG
- Boeing 747-400
- Boeing 777
- Boeing 717
All of these have great safety records
The 737 Max and 787 Dreamliner do not
I track all of these on my sites ✈️ Airline List dot com
P.S. I am NOT suicidal
Why I write so much about the coming unemployment. An explanation.
The discussion is heating up. Basically, the positions on the current situation regarding AI and the labor market can be divided into two camps: one do not really believe that we are on the cusp of an unprecedented world of work in which robotics and AI work better and more effectively than humans. Their supposed argument: 1) Technology has always created new jobs for humans 2) Robots have been around for decades and will not be able to replace humans this time either 3) In reality, the technology of AI and robotics is not that revolutionary, it is just artificially inflated to generate hype and therefore money. These are essentially the arguments put forward as to why everything will probably remain largely as it is, with a few technical and productive improvements.
The second camp, on the other hand, is of the opinion that with AI and robotics we have a technology that is qualitatively new this time. 1) because AI (in general) reaches human standards intellectually and, as agentic AI, can now and in the future take over many and soon all activities on the computer (“white-collar jobs”) 2) AI is the breakthrough that was necessary to finally raise robots to human quality, in that they can now be trained for all eventualities and carry out delicate activities, so to speak; 3) as a consequence (of 1 and 2), humans as wage laborers are inferior to robotics and AI in the competition for efficiency and are therefore being replaced.
I myself belong to the second camp and make no secret of it. I am of the opinion that for the first time in human history we are seriously at a turning point where technology is no longer just an augmentation, an improvement of human labor, but in the very near future its complete replacement. This is a novelty that has never happened before in ten thousand years of modern human history.
However, this assumption is not just based on speculation or blind hope, but can be derived from current developments and the trend towards progress. In other words, it is more likely that robots and AI will replace us as a workforce than that everything will remain as it is.
The argument that even well-known figures such as Dario Amodei, who has recently spoken freely in numerous interviews that he believes in 1-3 years we will probably see all entry-level jobs for white-collar workers wiped out and experience an estimated 10%-20% unemployment rate globally, but also high-ranking politicians such as Obama, major investors such as Masayoshi Son and even the Pope, who sees AI as the greatest threat to the labor market. Admittedly, just because well-known people make these statements doesn't mean they are true. But I think Amodei's LLMs have at least clearly shown us how good they already are today and how efficient they will be in the near future. Or to put it another way: even if the AI models were to stop improving, they are already at a level where they are already turning the entire working world upside down, as one anthropic researcher recently said. So it's no longer necessarily just about improvement, but we have now reached the application phase. The question is therefore not if, but when AI will find its way into all areas of work.
I repeat: the question is not if, but only when AI will find its way into all areas of work. That this will happen is a foregone conclusion. The race for the fastest integration into work processes has long since begun.
The social upheaval is here. And I have the feeling that this truism has still not reached most people. We are the first and last generation to experience the centuries-old way of working. In the future, we will initially work with AI agents as their managers together with physical robots until they replace us completely. No generation before us has experienced this process and no generation after us will ever experience this transformation phase. We are the generation of upheaval.
However, it follows that the economic camp of the working population will also change. And as far as I know, there is no solution to this. Neither a global UBI has been decided as a basic security nor any AI tax or whatever. That's what makes this transformation so serious. We are heading into uncharted waters, into the deepest darkness, without a compass, without a plan.
That's why it's so important to me to point out the significance again and again. Because we have no solution for the future social situation of the vast majority of working people, we all need a wake-up call: we need to discuss how we want to live and, above all, how we can guarantee the distribution of the goods we produce. If there are no jobs, there are obviously no wages to be earned. So how are we going to satisfy our needs?
In short, we are experiencing the biggest change to our economic system ever. It puts the Industrial Revolution in the shade and is not wrongly equated with the invention of “making fire”; however, because we are approaching this process so haphazardly, it remains unclear how the majority of people will not become impoverished. It is so simple, but so important: how do we ensure that society is provided for if wage labor is increasingly and successively eliminated?
That is the issue. And that's why I never tire of referring to it again and again.
(The text was written without AI. Probably a rarity nowadays, as almost everything is generated by AI)
What if Studio Ghibli directed Lord of the Rings?
I spent $250 in Kling credits and 9 hours re-editing the Fellowship trailer to bring that vision to life—and I’ll show you exactly how I did it 👇🏼
GAH, AM I DREAMING?! 🤯🫣🤩
Marketing will never be the same. I made these ads for Wufers in about 45 seconds using @openai’s 4o image model.
Prompts:
1. “Make me an ad image in Barnum and Bailey style for a DTC brand of your choice.”
2. “Make me a colorful ad image in typical DTC style for Wufers dog treats. Include a product box and badge in the corner.”
Goodbye Loom and hello Supercut
